Monrovia – Both leaderships of the Judiciary and the Liberia National Bar Association have described as deeply saddened the death of fallen Liberia politician and lawyer Cllr.Charles Walker Brumskine.
The legal entities made the assertions in two separate statements issued Monday, November 25, on behalf of its respective institutions following the death of Cllr. Brumskine, one of the country’s astute legal luminaries.
In the statement issued by the Supreme Court’s Director of Public Information, Att’y. Darryl Ambrose Nmah described the late lawyer as “a legal luminary whose pursuit for the rule of law in Liberia as interminable.”
“The Liberian Judiciary is deeply saddened by the demise of Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine, a senior member of the Supreme Court Bar and an astute and dedicated professor of law at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law,” said Att’y Nmah.
He further stated that the demise of Cllr. Brumskine is a great loss, which has created an unfathomable void in the community of the legal profession in Liberia.
The Supreme Court’s statement added that it will remember Cllr. Brumskine for his legal astuteness, copious arguments before the Supreme Court Bench and the respect he had always shown to the court and the Judiciary during his years of practice.
“The Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court of Liberia on behalf of the Judiciary Branch of Government extend our deepest condolence to the family of the late Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine for the irreparable loss,” concluded Nmah.
Also, the president of the Liberian National Bar Association, Cllr. Tiawan Gongloe, who spoke with FrontPageAfrica Monday afternoon, stated that Liberia has lost one of the greatest legal luminaries and extended his condolence to the Brumskine family to take solace.
Cllr. Gongloe added that the deceased was a very tough lawyer, who left a mark behind in the legal profession that all Liberian lawyers will remember.
“Cllr. Brumskine and myself met in an argument before the Supreme Court in 1997 when he represented the former ruling National Patriotic Party (NPP) while I represented the National Elections Commission. That argument was a tough one. I admired him because he performed well and this is what we expect of lawyers,” said Cllr. Gongloe.
As the President of the Liberian National Bar Association, Gongloe stated that the Bar always takes part in the funeral service of any of its fallen members and once the family members of Cllr. Brumskine inform the LNBA of the funeral activities, its Executive Committee will meet to decide on the LNBA’s participation in the funeral.
The late Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine died on November 20, 2019 in the United States of America where he has gone to seek medical attention.
