Liberia’s Varflay Kamara, Director of Public Affairs at the Liberia Broadcasting System, has been selected as one of only 20 journalists from around the world to participate in the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Program for Journalists on Investigative Reporting.
The program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program, will run from September 27 to October 11, 2025. It is widely regarded as a cornerstone of America’s commitment to democratic values and press freedom.
Participants in the program will explore the foundational principles of freedom of speech and the critical role of a free press in a democratic society. Through discussions, site visits, and interactive activities, they will examine how freedom of speech is protected, challenged, and practiced in the United States.
The program also aims to strengthen global networks among investigative journalists dedicated to transparency and accountability, fostering shared values of press freedom and democracy across nations.
Mr. Kamara’s selection is a significant achievement, reflecting his dedication to advancing public discourse and promoting journalistic excellence in Liberia. His participation highlights Liberia’s contributions to global journalism and underscores the vital role journalists play in fostering informed societies and holding institutions accountable.
Meanwhile, Mr. Varflay Kamara has lauded the United Embassy near Monrovia for his selection in a program that continues to builds the capacity of some of the world’s brightest journalists.
