It’s time for the embattled Speaker of the House of Representatives to resign. The sense of entitlement Alex Tyler apparently feels should come to an end when he faces his colleagues in the House of Representatives.
He cannot expect, and should not get any sympathy from his colleagues for allegedly enriching himself at the expense of the Liberian people.
Alex Tyler has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he lacks all scruples or principles whatsoever to sit as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The Speaker must represent the interests of all Liberians, regardless of one’s political party, or, God forbid, to serve as the President of the Republic of Liberia should the unthinkable happen to the President and Vice President during his tenure in that high, but unelected position (national election), and either in President Sirleaf’s remaining time in office or the next president’s.
On Wednesday the 25th of May 2016, the Government of the Republic of Liberia indicted the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Alex Tyler for allegedly committing multiple criminal offences, bribery, economic sabotage, criminal conspiracy, solicitation and facilitation.
As a result of his indictments, ordinary Liberians are saying it’s time for the Speaker to step aside from his leadership role in the House of Representatives. It’s time for the House of Representatives to ask Speaker Alec Tyler to step down as speaker.
If he fails to resign voluntarily, his colleagues in the House of Representatives should immediately go through the legislative process to facilitate the immediate ouster of the embattled Speaker. Now is the time for action.
Ordinary Liberians believe the need of the Republic of Liberia is the first priority of their elected officials. The Liberian people needs a full Speaker, who will spend his full attention on the Liberian people’s business.
The distractions of Representative Tyler’s situation will make it extremely difficult for him to meet the demands of his role as Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Liberia.
It’s unbelievable to imagine that Speaker Tyler had actually contemplated (perhaps still contemplating) running for the Presidency.
Mr. Speaker, you’re absolutely no use to the vast majority of the Liberian people and perhaps the people of your district. It has long been established that you will not progress further in your political career. There is no list long enough for you – Mr. Speaker to win a higher electable position at the election next year, or one in the future.
No electorate will want a man who puts himself above others when the intentions of an elected official must be to serve the community he/she represents. Mr. Speaker, it’s time to GO. The truth is that only your resignation without further hassle from the House of Representatives will leave you (Speaker Tyler) with any shred of dignity.
Representative Tyler, it’s time to resign immediately as Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Liberia.
