Monrovia – The opposition Liberty Party, one of four parties making up the Collaboration of Political Parties(CPP) says the Collaboration of Political Parties is beyond the individual interests of political leaders.
In a statement late Monday, the party urged all within the hierarchy to respect the objectives of the CPP.
Said the LP: “The Collaboration of Political Parties (CPP) is the desire of the people of Liberia to continue to consolidate their young democracy which is evidently under stress. Especially in this regard, the CPP is beyond the narrow and individual interests of political leaders and or standard bearers.”
The LP statement said the hopes of Liberians and constituent partisans are basically enjoined in expectations that as leaders, all in the hierarchy will strive to look beyond our individual aspirations and forge a united front against the many threats, difficulties and stresses being imposed on our democracy and our people by the obvious lack of leadership of the ruling party.

In this regard, the party added, what the CPP collectively represents is bigger than any of the personal aspirations of any of its constituent leaders. “Therefore, no constituent leader of the CPP can and will break us apart.”
Liberty Party is therefore urging respect for the objectives of the CPP, it’s framework, as well as the wishes of the Liberian people to safeguard our democracy and ease the hardships to which they are now painfully subjected daily by working together as diligently and as seriously as we can to restore our country to respectable leadership and democratic governance. “The Liberty Party remains fully committed to the CPP knowing, as all other constituent party does, that the CPP, as yet, has no standard bearer or vice standard bearer. For now, our goal is to work toward a CPP victory in the upcoming 2020 Senatorial Elections.”
The CPP came together on February 21st, this year with all four figures who were standard-bearers for their respective parties affixing their signatures, pledging through a resolution and assuring their respective constituencies that unlike previous alliances, this latest attempt would be different.
In recent days however, murmurs and speculations suggested there was some strains between Mr. Benoni Urey, Chair of the CPP and Mr. Alexander Cummings, head of the Alternative National Congress.
Mr. Urey, in a call in to the Ramah TV Facebook live, expressed his support for former Vice President Joseph Boakai as his choice for President in 2023 and insinuated that his ANC counterpart, Cummings was not ready for the highest job in the land because he had been away too long.
Said the ALP leader: “I want to go first to the former vice president Joe Nyumah Boakai. Look , we must be respectful to our elders. I am a traditional man and we grew up with certain traditions. We always respect our elders; and where we are today, we need people with wisdom, knowledge and understanding of the social, cultural, and economic, the political conditions we find ourselves today. And it’s important that we elect a mature person to the presidency. You know people keep making reference to Joe Boakai for being vice president for 12 years and doing nothing; that he was a part of a government and he accomplished nothing; and look, we all participated in government . People usually elect people who have worked in government. You don’t elect people who just come from a country and come to another country and want to be president. You elect people based on their experience and based on their reputation. And I think of the 3 candidates, Joe Boakai has the most experience; Joe Boakai has stood the test of time, and he’s a relatively decent person.”
In response, Mr. Cummings said he was taken aback by the attacks from Mr. Urey. “I have remained consistently involved with the development and progress of my country and it is unfortunate that Benoni will attempt to mislead the people of Liberia for his own personal reasons. I have been focused on working in communities across Liberia and committing resources to those languishing at the bottom of the economic ladder. It is sad that Mr. Urey feels the way he feels but it will not deter me from my objectives and responsibilities as the political leader of the ANC.”
Both men, FrontPageAfrica has learned sat down at an undisclosed location Monday for a tete-a-tete meeting to reportedly squash their differences and review the framework of the CPP arrangement.
