Monrovia – The Press Union of Liberia is partnering with the National Civil Society Council of Liberia under the UNMIL Quick Impact Project to expand understanding and application of Human Rights for journalists and civil society organizations in 4 counties.
The partnership, to be launched in Tubmanburg, Bomi County on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, includes the organization of human rights training for civil society and journalists, as well as the setting up of resource centers in each of the counties.
The activities are being done in partnership with UNMIL Human Rights & Protection Section. Press Union of Liberia President Abdullai Kamara sees this partnership as an important step in making human rights more practical in our communities.
The resource centers will have human rights materials, access to internet-enabled computers to advance research on relevant issues, and will be available for all under a community ownership platform.
National Civil Society Council of Liberia Secretary General, the Rev. Christopher Toe, welcomed the initiative as a means of empowering local communities to keep informed about rights and obligations. The project will run in Bomi, Margibi, Nimba and Rivercess Counties.
