Pres. Weah Names Foreign Affairs, Finance and State Ministers as First Appointments in Gov’t


Monrovia – Fresh of his inauguration, Liberian President George Manneh Weah late Monday evening made his first appointments to his administration.

A statement from the President’s office reads:

“By Directive of the President of the Republic of Liberia, H.E. Amb. George Manneh Weah, the Heads of the following Government Agencies and Ministries will hold over until further notice:  Minister of Information, Hon. Lenn Eugene Nagbe, Minister of Education, Hon. George K. Werner, Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. Varney Sirleaf, Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, Hon. Gregory Coleman, and the Director of General Services Agency, Hon. Mary Broh.

All other Ministries and Public Corporations will be supervised by the Director of Human Resource of those entities until further notice.

The Commander in Chief of the Arm Forces of Liberia, H.E. President George Manneh Weah has retired with immediate effect the Chief of Staff of the Arm Forces of Liberia, Major General Daniel Ziahnkan; and is hereby appointed as Minister of National Defense subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate.

Deputy Chief of Staff, Brig. General Prince Charles Johnson III, is hereby appointed Chief of Staff of the Arm Forces of Liberia with immediate effect with the rank of Major General, pending confirmation by the Liberian Senate.

Others nominated are: Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, Hon. Nathaniel F. McGill,​ Minister of State & Chief of Staff, Ministry of Foreign Affairs,  Hon. Gbehzohngar M. Findley, ​Minister of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of Finance & Development Planning, Hon. Samuel D.  Tweah, ​Minister of Finance & Development Planning; Ministry of Justice, Cllr. Charles Gibson, Minister of Justice; Ministry of National Defense, Maj. Gen. Daniel Dee Ziankahn (Rtd), Minister of National Defense, Brig. Gen. Prince C. Johnson, Maj. Gen. Chief of Staff – Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL)​​​.

Also appointed with immediate effect is Sam Mannah Press Secretary to the President.

In consonance with Article 54 of the Constitution of the Republic of Liberia (1986), the President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Amb. George Manneh Weah has made the following nominations to positions in Government for confirmation by the Liberian Senate.
