Monrovia – Hell broke loose Wednesday when a group of young people nearly tore apart the joint chambers of the legislature a place considered sacred use by them to distribute their US$300.
Bulk of them were group of young men and women who gathered Wednesday in the courtyard of Criminal Court C to show their support to House Speaker Alex Tyler after he had showed up to turn himself in as an Indictee for his alleged involvement in the Global witness report.
The group of men under the banner, Militant for Tyler were seen at the court chanting pro-Tyler slogans as he appeared. Moments after a bond was accepted by the court from Tyler’s legal team in the joint chambers of the Capitol group of young people were seen completely in disagreement over the distribution of a US$300.00 (three hundred United States Dollars) given to them by the speaker.
One of the man whose identity is being withheld explained that distributing the money was difficult because the number of people that were initially mentioned to benefit had increase.
“My name is on that list nobody should try me. We all were shouting in support of the Speaker at the court. All the running around that money cannot even buy us cold water three times. If that money had landed in my hand I would have escaped with it with excessive running,” one of the men lamented in anger.
As an eavesdropping reporter zoomed in on the gathering, one of the men said: “Get out we don’t want reporter here this is not about reporter today.”
Protest gathering is becoming a popular attraction not just for political rallies but courtroom dramas as well.
Reactions to the crowds have been mixed with some taking issues with protesters who are becoming regular features and allowing themselves to be used by politicians for little or nothing. Many have blamed the practice on poverty while some believe that because of the rate of poverty, politicians are increasingly using young people to get their aims accomplish.
On Wednesday, young protesters nearly wound up in a fist fight for little as US$300 for about 50 rented protesters.
