The project is part of fulfillment of a campaign promise made during the just ended 2023 presidential and general election by Madam Taylor during her 2023 election campaign.
Speaking during the dedication ceremony held on Sunday, May 19, 2025, former VP Jewel Howard-Taylor stressed that despite no longer holding government office, she remains committed to improving the living conditions of citizens.
“This is part of my ongoing efforts to ensure communities have access to basic necessities,” former VP Taylor said.
According to her, she was shocked when she first visited the community during the 2023 campaign and listened to community dwellers alluding that they usually walk 30 minutes to access clean water which claimed her attention as not just a typical politician but a mother as well.
“I am happy that we have completed this project and turned it over to the community,” she said during the dedication ceremony.
Also speaking on behalf of the youth during the dedication ceremony, Zizi Howard, Jr, youth chairman of Cooper Farm Block-D, praised former Vice President Chief Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor for living up to her promise to bring relief to hundreds of residents of Cooper Farm, Block D Community.
“Despite losing a major election in 2023, she still pushed for this project, and today we are benefiting from this beautiful system,” he said.
Howard further conveyed his gratitude to the landowners, engineers, and community youth for their support.
The project, spearheaded by Liberia’s former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, was constructed in partnership with the Center for Humanitarian Activities in Africa (Liberia), a Turkish engineering company with a strong presence across Africa.
Santigie Sasay, an engineer with the Center for Humanitarian Activities in Africa (Liberia), highlighted Madam Taylor’s dedication to seeing the project through. Though his team had completed their initial assignments in Bong County, he said her persistence ensured the Cooper Farm initiative came to fruition.
Sasay emphasized the importance of proper maintenance to sustain the water system. “This facility will only last if the community manages it well,” he warned.
Elton Johns, an eminent resident of the community, also used the occasion urging his fellow community members to take ownership of the project.
