GBARNGA — Bong County Senator Johnny Kpehe has donated an ambulance to the Bong County Health Team for onward delivery to the Yila Clinic in Kpaii District, fulfilling a promise he made during the clinic’s dedication about a month ago.

By Selma Lomax selma.lomax@frontpageafricaonline.com

The donation, according to Senator Kpehe’s office, is part of efforts to strengthen emergency healthcare delivery in Kpaii District and improve the county’s overall medical response system.

Presenting the keys to the ambulance on behalf of the senator, Chief of Staff Gondai Seton said the donation was not only the fulfillment of a promise but also a demonstration of Senator Kpehe’s deep concern for the welfare of his constituents.

“Senator Kpehe will continue to be at the forefront of every initiative aimed at improving the health sector and other critical areas because the well-being of his people matters to him,” Seton said.

He emphasized that the senator considers the health needs of citizens a top priority requiring continuous support and intervention. Seton also urged the County Health Team to ensure proper management and supervision of the ambulance.

“This ambulance donation should not be seen as a one-time event but as part of a long-term health initiative to improve service delivery across Bong County,” he added.

Seton used the occasion to reaffirm Senator Kpehe’s commitment to supporting development efforts that improve the lives of citizens in Bong County.

Receiving the keys on behalf of the County Health Officer, the Administrator of the Bong County Health Team, Sam Siakor, lauded Senator Kpehe for what he described as a timely and impactful contribution to the county’s healthcare system.

Siakor noted that the donation would significantly enhance the county’s ambulance response capacity, which is often challenged by the growing number of emergencies.

“This is not the first time Senator Kpehe has supported the Bong County Health Team,” Siakor said. “He has been contributing to the health sector long before the elections. Recently, he donated 500 gallons of fuel to Phebe Hospital and provided a large quantity of medical supplies to several health centers across the county.”

Siakor assured the senator that the County Health Team would take full responsibility for the proper maintenance and operation of the ambulance to ensure it serves the intended purpose effectively.

“As we receive this ambulance today, we want to assure the senator that it will be properly managed and maintained,” he said. “We also encourage other leaders of the county to emulate this example. When every leader contributes even in small ways, we can be better equipped to serve our people.”

MONROVIA — Bong County Senator Johnny K. Kpehe, Sr., Chair of the Senate Committee on Youth and Sports, has stressed the need for increased support towards youth development in Liberia.

During the presentation of his 2024 annual committee report at the Senate’s first 2025 session, the senator stressed the need for the empowerment and transformation of young people across the country to be prioritized.

In his report on January 21, 2025, Senator Kpehe commended the Ministry of Youth and Sports for its efforts in youth development, particularly its work with at-risk youth.

He noted that significant strides have made in various programs but highlighted the importance of balancing attention between the ministry’s youth and sports components to ensure holistic progress.

The senator outlined key achievements from 2024, particularly in technical and vocational education training (TVET).

At the Monrovia Vocational Training Center (MVTC), the ministry completed its 13th training cycle, graduating 1,949 trainees in mechanical, building trades, and electrical fields.

Additionally, 65 TVET trainers underwent specialized training in Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and Zambia through European Union sponsorship, while 10 pioneer trainers received local training in TVET pedagogy.

He said doing the course of the year, the Business and Domestic Occupational Center (BDOTC) celebrated the completion of its 18th cycle, training 118 individuals in baking, tailoring, beauty culture, housekeeping, and hairdressing.

The senator also mentioned progress on EU-funded construction projects, including a hospitality center near the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex and a modern training facility for BDOTC, both nearing completion.

He also pointed out that the long-abandoned Youth Agriculture Training Center in Bensonville would undergo renovation, fully funded by the Liberian government.

In youth development, Senator Kpehe reported that 127 at-risk youth, including four children, transitioned from rehabilitation to recovery, while 67 homeless clients were settled in homes with their rent paid for one year.

Additionally, 140 cadets from Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Nimba, and Lofa counties were trained and deployed in public and private institutions to prepare them for employment, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

According to him, each cadet will receive $600 at the end of their three-month placement.

The senator also advocated for the Senate’s support in passing the Liberia Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) Commission Bill, which was approved by the House of Representatives in June 2024.

He emphasized that establishing the commission would strengthen Liberia’s technical education system and address workforce development needs.

Senator Kpehe reiterated the importance of addressing the needs of at-risk youth and urged his colleagues to prioritize youth development in national planning.

He warned that failing to invest in the younger generation could lead to significant societal challenges, stressing the urgency of sustained action.

“Neglecting our youth will jeopardize Liberia’s future. We must act now to ensure their transformation and empowerment,” he stated.

Meanwhile, senator Johnny K. Kpehe,Sr., is appealing to his colleagues and other stakeholders to collaborate in supporting youth-focused initiatives that would contribute to the country’s progress and stability.

Addressing his colleagues at the 1st sitting of the Liberian Senate Tuesday, January 16, 2024, Senator Kpehe said during the campaign period he noticed that several Towns and villages do not have access to good road network.

According to the Bong County Senator, due to the deplorable conditions of roads in the County, pregnant women and sick patients are on many occasions transported to various health centers in locally made hammocks, while famers’ produces get spoil on the daily basis without benefits.

He pointed out that the construction and rehabilitation of feeder roads across the Country will also help boost the agriculture sector of Liberia, as well as improve infrastructural development.

In his deliberation, Hon. Johnny K. Kpehe also highlighted the lack of government’s paid teachers and essential drugs in public grade Schools and health facilities, with a call to his colleagues to look in said direction by ensuring that qualified volunteer teachers are placed on government payroll and the annual budget for Health is increased.

Speaking further, Senator Kpehe stressed the need for improved mobile network in hard to reach areas.

Meanwhile, Senator Kpehe has vowed to work with the rest of the Senators in making Liberia a better nation.
