Careysburg – Betting company Bettomax Liberia, in partnership with its sponsored female football club Shaita Angels FC, has donated assorted items valued at US$1,000 to My Brother’s Keeper Orphanage and Vocational Training Center in Careysburg District as part of its monthly Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

By: Christopher C Walker | christopherc.walker@frontpageafricaonline.com

The donation included 17 single bed mattresses, 10 bags of rice, a bag of sugar, a large tin of oil, tissue, toothpaste, cartons of soap, Clorox, copybooks, and pens. Administrators at the orphanage described the gesture as “timely.”

Bettomax Liberia’s Operational Manager, Fallah Briama, said the donation reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.

“We are honored to be here today along with our sponsored club Shaita Angels FC. We understand the challenges many orphanages face in Liberia, especially with limited funding,” Briama said. “This is part of our monthly CSR activities, and we hope it won’t be the last time this institution receives our support.”

Briama encouraged the caretakers to use the items for their intended purpose and extended appreciation on behalf of Bettomax’s CEO and staff.

Receiving the items, Ralph K. Gelego, General Administrator of My Brother’s Keeper Orphanage, thanked Bettomax and Shaita Angels for the support. He said the home, which was established in 1997, continues to struggle with resources while caring for orphans, disadvantaged children, and people living with disabilities.

“Most of our mattresses were spoiled, and the new ones will serve as direct replacements,” Gelego said. “We care for children from across Africa, not just Liberia. We don’t discriminate.”

He appealed to Bettomax and Shaita Angels to maintain regular support.

Shaita Angels FC Vice President Ricky Teah recalled that the orphanage had once offered the club a training ground when they were in need.

“When we were stranded and looking for a place to train, you helped us. So, we decided to give back in our own small way,” Teah said.

Players of Shaita Angels FC accompanied the donation team and spent time with the children at the orphanage, offering encouragement and engaging in fun activities.

Bettomax, which sponsors both Shaita Angels FC and Watanga FC, said it will continue its CSR initiatives monthly in communities across Liberia.

Monrovia – Former Liberian football champions Watanga FC, in partnership with gaming company Bettomax, on Saturday, August 30, donated essential medical equipment to the Tender Medical Clinic in Paynesville, as part of their ongoing monthly corporate social responsibility initiative.

By: Christopher C. Walker 0777898224/0886723075 christopherc.walker@frontpageafricaonline.com

The items, valued at about US$1,000, included a modern delivery bed, a mini freezer, medical scale, blood pressure cords, and trash cans—equipment aimed at strengthening the clinic’s capacity to serve patients in the community.

Speaking during the presentation, Benjamin Garkpah, of Bettomax’s media department, said the donation was part of the company’s commitment to identifying health facilities across Liberia, not just major hospitals but also smaller community clinics.

“Coming here to a smaller clinic in the community is our dream because as part of our corporate social responsibility we want to reach everywhere in Liberia,” Garkpah said. “We are so excited to bring these items here, especially the modern delivery bed. Our only hope is that the donations are used for the intended purpose.”

Garkpah explained that Bettomax, in partnership with Watanga FC and female club Shaita Angels, has over the past months made donations to major hospitals and orphanages, including JFK Medical Hospital, ELWA, Redemption, and SD Cooper, among others.

Receiving the items, George S. Gbormoi Sr., proprietor of Tender Medical Clinic, hailed the gesture as timely and impactful.

“These items came at the time we are in need of them,” Gbormoi said. “We didn’t have a scale because the one we had spoiled, and to receive this modern delivery bed means a lot to us and our patients. We are grateful to Bettomax and Watanga for looking our way.”

Established five years ago, the clinic serves residents of Paynesville and surrounding communities. Gbormoi said it was encouraging to see a football team and a betting company extend support to smaller facilities.

Also speaking, Watanga assistant coach Patianal Mulbah lauded Bettomax for the partnership, stressing that the collaboration continues to make an impact beyond football.

The donation, part of Bettomax’s monthly outreach, highlights how sports clubs and corporate partners are using their platforms to support communities in Liberia.

Monrovia – In a major development for Liberian football, Bettomax Liberia has penned a historic three-year partnership with the Liberia Football Association (LFA) launching the Bettomax Champions Cup, a premier pre-season showdown that is set to become a staple on the national football calendar.

By: Christopher C Walker 0777898224/0886723075 christopher.walker@frontpageafricaonline.com

The landmark agreement, signed on August 15, 2025, will see Bettomax Liberia sponsor and co-organize the elite competition through 2028.

The Bettomax Champions Cup will feature the top eight teams from each LFA Men’s First Division season, with the aim of boosting competitiveness and offering players and fans a new high-stakes football spectacle.

A Vision for Growth

“We believe this partnership with the Liberia Football Association will underscore our vision” “This is not just about football it’s about building something lasting for Liberia,” said Fallah Briama, Operational Manager of Bettomax Liberia, during the official signing ceremony.

He said the Bettomax partnership aims to nourish the continuous growth and development of football which the LFA hopes for.

According to Briama the betting company sponsors aim to support a successful tournament that will leave a good memory in the mind of modern supporters across Liberia as they celebrate the most famous sports in Liberia.

“Football is more than a game here; it’s a force that brings communities together. At Bettomax, we see it as our duty to support that spirit by investing in the game’s future.”

The partnership comes on the heels of Bettomax’s growing presence in the Liberian football ecosystem. The company is already the lead sponsor of Watanga FC in the LFA Men’s First Division and Shaita Angels FC in the Women’s Upper League.

But their commitment goes beyond the pitch. In recent years, Bettomax has launched monthly charitable initiatives, donating US$1,000 alongside its sponsored clubs to critical institutions including John F. Kennedy Medical Center, Catholic Hospital, Redemption Hospital, and various orphanages across the country.

The Bettomax Champions Cup will adopt a group stage format: the eight qualified teams have been divided into two groups, with the top two teams from each advancing to the semifinals. Winners of the semifinals will contest the final, while the third-place match will offer redemption for the losing sides.

The Bettomax Champions Cup offers a total prize pool of over US$30,000, with all eight teams guaranteed a cash reward. The champions will take home US$10,000, while the runners-up receive US$5,000. Teams finishing third and fourth earn US$3,500 and US$3,000 respectively, and those placing fifth to eighth each receive US$2,000.

LFA Welcomes a New Era

Sekou Konneh, First Vice President of the Liberia Football Association, described the partnership as a “game-changer” for the football landscape.

“We’ve long talked about enhancing our football structure, and this partnership is a big leap in the right direction,” Konneh stated. “This tournament not only raises the competitive bar but also brings real financial incentives to our clubs. Bettomax has proven that corporate support, when done right, can truly elevate our game.”

Mr. Konneh described the partnership as a good opportunity created as part of the LFA aims to develop the game and he extended the LFA appreciation to Bettomax for such ideas.

He called clubs participating in the two weeks tournament to work together with the LFA and its partners to display good football.

FC Fassell Out, Blackman Warrior In

Meanwhile, in a surprise twist, reigning league champions FC Fassell will not feature in the inaugural edition due to their travel plans.

The Liberian champions are currently in Egypt on preseason and informed the FA that they could not compete in the tournament.

Their absence opens the door for Blackman Warrior, who finished 9th last season, to join the eight-team lineup.

The inaugural Bettomax Champions Cup kicks off on Saturday, August 23, 2025, and will climax on Sunday, September 7, 2025 with all matches being hosted at the Tusa Field in Gardnersville while the last matches in group Phase will be played at both the SKD sports complex and Tusa avenue that continues to play a key role in the nation’s football development.

The draw of the competition which was held on Friday paired Heaven Eleven FC, Bea Mountain, Paynesville FC and Blackman Warriors in group A while Group B consists of Watanga, Discoveries FC Borough FC and LPRC Oilers.

A Tournament with a Future

Though the 2025 edition features men’s clubs only, both Bettomax and the LFA confirmed that plans are already underway to expand the Cup in future years to include women’s teams.

Both the LFA and Bettomax believe that Women’s football is on the rise, and will be proud to support such movement

FPA has been informed that Future editions of the tournament will reflect the inclusivity that Liberian football deserves.

With corporate backing, a well-structured format, and rising enthusiasm, the Bettomax Champions Cup is poised to redefine pre-season football in Liberia setting a new gold standard for ambition, entertainment, and opportunity.

“This is more than just a competition,” Konneh added. “It’s a celebration of what Liberian football can become.”

The donation, presented during a brief ceremony, is part of Bettomax’s corporate social responsibility, which the company committed to after signing a sponsorship deal with Watanga FC.

Speaking during the event, Bettomax Operational Manager Fallah Braima said the company is pleased to support one of Liberia’s oldest and most respected health facilities.

“We are happy to be here again at Catholic Hospital, one of Liberia’s long-standing health institutions,” Braima said. “We are here today for one purpose – our corporate social responsibility. In partnership with Watanga FC, every month we reach out to a health facility, community, or individual in need, and provide a thousand United States dollars to assist and contribute to the society.”

Braima explained that after making inquiries, the team learned that St. Joseph Catholic Hospital was in need of assistance and decided to intervene.

“We hope this donation will help with the purchase of materials. This won’t be the first or last time – this is a monthly process, and based on how this contribution is used, we may return for bigger interventions in the future,” he added.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, Edwin M. Mulbah thanked Watanga FC and Bettomax for the timely contribution, saying it came at a critical time.

“We are grateful to God for this wonderful gift, especially Bettomax and Watanga, for recognizing the responsibility and performance of St. Joseph Catholic Hospital to the general public. We are being recognized and supported, and for that, we say thank you,” Mulbah said.

He assured that the funds will be used for the intended purpose and that both Watanga and Bettomax will be invited to see how the money is spent.

Watanga FC Head Coach Copper Sannah, who also spoke at the event, praised Bettomax for fulfilling its promise and reaffirmed the club’s commitment to supporting communities.

“In as much as we play football, we also want to give back. Whatever we can do to impact society and our community, we will do,” Sannah said.

On March 29, Shaita Angels and Bettomax presented essential items valued at approximately US$1,000 to help the Safe Home recover from the loss. The donation included 10 bags of 25 kg rice, 15 mattresses, 2 tins of 10 liters of cooking oil, washing soap, sanitary pads, toiletries, and other household essentials.

Benjamin Gologo Garkpah, representing Bettomax, expressed sadness over the tragic incident, emphasizing their commitment to community welfare. “This is part of our ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts,” Garkpah said. “Bettomax and Shaita Angels regularly support health sector initiatives, orphanages, and other community projects. We are here today to assist THINK Safe Home after this terrible fire.”

Garkpah also highlighted that Bettomax’s initiatives would continue long-term, noting their previous support for various health facilities and orphanages in Liberia.

Musu Y. Taiwon, Manager of THINK Safe Home, expressed gratitude for the generous donation. She shared the heartbreak of losing two children, aged 13 and 14, in the fire and the difficulties the organization is facing in finding a new location for the children.

“We are deeply thankful for the support shown by Bettomax and Shaita Angels. The citizens of Liberia have been incredibly concerned about our loss, and this gesture helps us rebuild,” Taiwon said.

She emphasized that the THINK Safe Home provides shelter and care for children rescued from trafficking situations and prepares them to be reunited with their families.

Ricky Teah, Vice President of Shaita Angels FC, also commended Bettomax for their continuous support to the Liberian community. “We are proud to partner with Bettomax in this meaningful way, and we look forward to further supporting our community and helping those in need,” Teah said.

Bettomax Liberia has been Shaita Angels’ official shirt sponsor since August 2024, under a one-year partnership deal valued at US$14,000, with the option to extend.

As part of the partnership, Bettomax supports specific charitable initiatives chosen by Shaita Angels, further demonstrating their commitment to making a positive impact in Liberia.

The gesture is part of the Liberian champions sponsor Bettomax , corporate social responsibility.

Bettomax signed a sponsorship with Watanga and obligated itself to giving back to the community.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony on Saturday, the operational manager of Bettomax, Fallah Braima, said his company was delighted to support the health sector of Liberia through Watanga FC.

“We are happy to be here again at the ELWA hospital, one of Liberia’s long standing health facilities. We are here in partnership with Watanga FA Football Club,”

“We are here today for one purpose and that is our corporate social responsibility and in partnership with Watanga FC every month we reach out to a health facility, community engagement or an individual that needs help and give a thousand United States dollars to them in order to assist and contribute to the society,”. Fallah Braima said.

Fallah said their intervention was as a result of inquiries made and was informed that the hospital was in need of detergents and other supplies as such they decided to extend their hands to the hospital.

“We are hoping that this cash donation of a thousand United States dollars given to you will be used to purchase materials in that direction and we are hoping this will not be the first or last time as this is a process ongoing every month and base on how you guys will use it and the reaction we might be coming back to do bigger things in the future,” the Bettomax Liberia Operational Manager said

Responding to the donation, the Administrator of ELWA, Rev. James Freeman Galway, thanked the Liberian champions and Bettomax betting company for their contribution toward the hospital.

He said the presentation came when they really needed it and said it will go a long way in the operation of the upkeep of the hospital.

Rev. Galway promised to use the cash for the intended purpose, adding they will provide a comprehensive report to Bettomax and Watanga on how the cash was expended.

“We are grateful to God for this wonderful gift especially Bettomax and Watanga recognizing the responsibility and performance of ELWA hospital to the general public, we are grateful that we are being recognized and that you can come to give this donation we want to say thank you”

“We also want to assure you that this money will be used to purchase those items that will directly benefit our patients,” Rev Garway said.

Speaking on behalf of Watanga, Chief Executive Officer G. Andy Quamie appreciated Bettomax for living up to its promise of providing help to whatever initiative Watanga identifies monthly.

He said as a club based in Paynesville and ELWA hospital is situated in the same community, it’s good to give back to the hospital.

“In as much as we play on the football field we also want to identify with the needs so whatever we can do to impact the society and community we will do,” Andy said.

He added the club will see if they can sign an MOU with the hospital to treat their players when they are sick or get injured.

Saturday’s donation by Watanga and Bettomax is their third, having done the same at JFK medical center and Redemption Hospital respectively.

The betting company on Friday August 9,.20224 unveiled the champions of Liberia Football Association (LFA) first Division League and the champions of the Orange Cup Women’s category Shiata Angels as official shirt sponsors.

LFA first division champions Watanga FC signed a three-year deal, but the club’s chief executive officer (CEO), Andy Quamie, however, declined to disclose how much the deal was worth.

It is still unknown why the cost of the Watanga deal was not disclosed, but is believed to be a three-year deal. Despite the unwillingness of Quamie to announce the worth of the contract, FrontPage Africa has been informed that it’s a deal worth $60,000.00 for the period of three years.

As part of the contract, Watanga will receive $20,000.00 per season, totaling $60,000.00 over the three years period.

Upper Women’s League club, Shaita Angels also signed a one-year contract with the betting company.

The president of Shaita Angels, Benita Urey, told the media that the deal is valued over $14,000.00 and is a contract that is subject to renewal.

This also means, Bettomax will be Shaita Angels’ official shirt sponsor this season. Bettomax Liberia’s CEO, Darren Glover, said his company was delighted to support Liberian football. “We are a sports betting company in Liberia and we want to support football. We know how popular football is here,” Glover said. Mr. Glover made specific reference to the importance of women’s football, stressing that its development is as key as men’s football.

The Bettomax Liberia CEO said the sponsorship deals are part of the company’s social corporate responsibilities, highlighting how involved Bettomax has been in supporting the health sector.

“As a company, we want to demonstrate our corporate social responsibilities. Every month, we identify a charity to support and we have already had two in conjunction with Watanga; JKF and Redemption Hospitals. Next month, we will be identifying with the Healing Liberian Foundation,” Glover said at the signing ceremony.

He said they want to bring women’s football on the same level of men’s football in Liberia, something he said is difficult but is achievable. “We want to support football in Liberia because we know how popular football is and the country is not short of footballers but is also important to support those that are running the clubs in Liberia and to give them a higher profile as us,” Glover said.

He said it’s also important that the league continues to flourish, noting that the women’s league is not up to the men’s leagues but wants to support women’s football for the good of Liberian football.

According to him, they decided to support a women’s and men’s teams to make sure their brand is promoted and to bring about competition in Liberian football.

“The most important element of this deal is that we as a company want to demonstrate our commitment to our corporate social responsibility.

“Every month we are going to select a good local initiative to donate whatever you want like we have done with JFK and Redemption hospitals with Watanga FC,” he said.

He added that their sponsorship with the two clubs will focus on education and health every month and for the month of August they will identify with the Healing Liberian Foundation.

Speaking on behalf of Shaita Angels, Madam Urey thanked Bettomax for the support. “We are grateful that Bettomax has seen reasons to support football in Liberia and most especially seeing reasons to support women’s football, “she added.

She asserted that when they as officials of Shiata Angels started the club getting sponsors was difficult and even if they got one it was difficult for the sponsors to live up to their contractual agreement.

Madam Urey said they were attracted to Bettomax because of what they have done with Watanga FC, their male team and believe the deal will be beneficial to both parties.

“We really appreciate Bettomax for believing in us and as the CEO said it’s important to promote women’s football but Liberia is behind. With the sponsorship with Bettomax we hope Shaita can be the biggest female club in Liberia. “We want to use this sponsorship to win the Women’s League which I believe is possible,” she said.

For his part, Quamie said working with the betting company during their CAP Cup Competition has been great, expressing optimism that the deal will be beneficial to both parties.

He disclosed that they have an official sponsor but the deal with Bettomax will not have conflict of interest. “We will do our best to retain the Cup and not disappoint you by not winning the league,” Quamie said.

On Tuesday, August 15, 2023, Bettomax officially presented a sum of $15,000.00 USD to Watanga Football Club, as part of their preparation for the CAF Cup qualifiers. Fallah Braima, the Commercial Manager of Bettomax, stated that the purpose of this presentation is twofold: to assist the club in meeting its financial commitments and to inspire the team’s exceptional performance both at home and away during the return leg.

The upcoming match will see Watanga FC hosting the Malian club Stade Malien at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex on Sunday, August 20, 2023, in the first leg of the CAF Cup.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, Braima emphasized that this gesture exemplifies the company’s commitment to giving back to Liberian Football. He expressed Bettomax’s aspiration to establish significant partnerships with various clubs across the country. Braima also underlined the company’s dedication to corporate social responsibility within the sporting sector, emphasizing that the contribution serves not only as financial support but also as motivation and empowerment for Watanga FC.

Fallah Braima further stressed that Bettomax’s involvement is part of a broader initiative aimed at promoting football and sports throughout Liberia. He elaborated on the company’s future plans, highlighting a desire to engage with other sporting activities and events nationally.

“We recognize the financial challenges faced by local clubs. In our efforts to contribute, Bettomax is proud to extend our support to Watanga, even with our modest contribution,” Braima explained. He emphasized that the intention behind their contribution is purely to encourage the people of Liberia to rally behind their team, showing their support during the upcoming match and other sports events across the nation.

To amplify fan participation, Braima announced that in addition to their financial contribution, Bettomax will secure 5000 field-side tickets to ensure a substantial turnout of supporters for the first leg match on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the Samuel Kanyan Doe Sports Complex.

Taking advantage of the occasion, Fallah urged other companies, businesses, and individuals, including fellow Liberians, to join forces with Bettomax in supporting Watanga and sports in general. Expressing gratitude, Emmanuel Tomax Solo Jr., the Secretary General of Watanga Football Club, enthusiastically received the $15,000 check from Bettomax. He commended the sports betting company for its timely support, viewing it as a significant boost to the club’s ongoing resource mobilization in preparation for their participation in the continental showcase.

In a gesture of appreciation, the Club’s Secretary General presented an official fan shirt bearing the Watanga FC logo to Bettomax. This demonstration of gratitude signifies the Club’s recognition of Bettomax’s role in alleviating their financial constraints.

The forthcoming match is scheduled for Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the Samuel Kanyan Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville. Watanga FC aims to progress to the next stage of the competition and secure a spot in the group stage this season, following their previous elimination in the first round of the Champions League last season against Nigeria’s Rivers United.
