In the match played at Samuel Kanyon Sports complex, Flamingos proved to be the better side right from the blast of the whistle.
Their efforts paid quickly with 3 goals in the first half through Shakirat Moshood, Peace Effiong and Harmony Chidi.
Liberia improved in their performance in the second half but it was Nigeria who scored again in the 74th minute through Ifitezue.
Yasah Gwaikolo scored Liberia’s consolatory goal in the 87th minute and earned a respectable 1-4 result. The visitors were physically strong for the Liberian side who could not matched the Nigerian’s strength.
The host’s coach Sekou Munuba said he was proud of his girls who give good account of themselves in the match despite the big name of Nigeria.
Speaking to the media, Munuba said he is optimistic of overturning the tie in Nigeria.
“You saw the game we played today and I have learned more about Nigeria and believe we can get the result in Nigeria,”
“It was the same in Senegal and we qualified over them but and I am optimistic that once we work on little things we didn’t do well today, we can get the needed result” Sekou Munuba said.
According to the Liberian coach, Nigeria won the match but they didn’t play better than his team.
The second leg is slated for MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja. The winner of the tie will qualify for the U-17 Women’s world cup in the Dominican Republic.
