According to a release from the Liberia Football Association (LFA), the trip was made possible through recent discussions between LFA President Mustapha Raji and officials from the Egyptian Football Association (EFA). The EFA agreed to host Liberia’s U-17 team after Raji’s visit to Mauritania.
The U-17 team is part of the LFA’s Talent Development Scheme (TDS), and is under the supervision of FIFA Talent Coach Ammy Ninje. This initiative is part of efforts to rejuvenate football in Liberia by focusing on grassroots programs.
Football fans have expressed their frustration with the country’s performance, especially after failing to qualify for a major tournament in over 20 years.
Many have called on the LFA to prioritize youth development programs to restore Liberia’s footballing image.
The U-17 team’s participation in friendly matches in Cairo is seen as a critical step in rebuilding the future of Liberian football.
