Monrovia—League champions Watanga FC are struggling to defend their title, suffering yet another setback in the latest round of matches in the new Liberia Football Association Top Flight Season.
On Friday, Watanga fell 1-0 to LPRC Oilers, marking their third consecutive defeat by the same scoreline since the season began.
Mighty Barrolle is also enduring a difficult start, remaining without any points after a thrilling 3-2 loss to LISCR FC on Friday, marking one of their worst beginnings to a season in recent memory.
In contrast, Global Pharma secured their first three points of the season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Bea Mountain. Heaven Eleven missed an opportunity to seize the top spot after being held to a 1-1 draw by newly promoted Shaita FC. Another newly promoted team, Black Man Warriors, also played to a 1-1 draw against Freeport FC.
FC Fassell is currently riding high, maintaining a perfect record with three straight wins. They recently halted Discoveries’ solid run with a 1-0 victory, placing them two points ahead at the top of the first division table.
Paynesville FC bounced back from last week’s defeat to Heaven Eleven, defeating Liberia’s ‘Darling Club,’ Invincible Eleven, 2-0 at home on Thursday.
After three rounds of matches, FC Fassell leads the league standings with 9 points, followed closely by Heaven Eleven and LPRC Oilers, who each have 7 points. Meanwhile, the future looks grim for Watanga FC and Mighty Barrolle, both lingering at the bottom of the table with three consecutive defeats.
