The Liberian champions are yet to win a game in the league after five rounds of matches, suffering three defeats and two draws.
The Warriors began the league with a 1-0 defeat to LISCR, which was followed by defeats to Discoveries SA and LPRC Oilers respectively.
Coach Sannah’s side struggled in their last two games to secure a goalless draw to league leaders Fassell FC and a 1-1 draw to strugglers Mighty Barrolle.
With a serious competition this season in the Liberian league, many pundits and followers of Liberian football think the champions, who are in the relegation zone, will have to double up their performance if they are to challenge for the title.
But for the first time this season, Watanga were on the winning side, beating LPRC Oilers 3-0 away from home in the Orange Cup.
Sunday’s win, Sannah said, will serve as the start of more wins to come after a decent performance from Watanga FC.
After the match, Sannah said he believes Watanga FC are not far from their best even though they are yet to win a game in the league, but will win the League this season.
Watanga’s next three games will be a trip to Tusa to take on Freeport FC and at home to Paynesville FC, before a tough task away to Global Pharma in search of a first win in five league games after a difficult start to the season.
Many believe Watanga’s young team is the reason for their slow start.
“I think it is still too early to give up on the title. We have 26 games to play and we have played five games, you don’t give up, we have 33 points outstanding,” he said.
“Even the team at the top is topping us 11 points so I can tell you for free today is the 10th of November at the end of the season if Watanga FC don’t win the championship don’t ever call me coach Cooper Sannah,” he said.
“Take it to the bank today if we don’t win the championship at the end of the season don’t call me Cooper Sannah in the Liberian league,” the confident Sannah told the media.
Sannah, who has won the league with three different clubs BYC, LPRC Oilers and Watanga, said his team’s poor start to the season is the result of his players not being in their best forms.
According to him, in all of the games they played, chances were created, but converting the opportunities was hard.
With his team seeing the back of the net three times without a reply shows they are regaining their best forms.
“Despite all that has happened we have been talking to our players and I can assure you game by game we will still play the Watanga FC football,” Cooper said.
