The Warriors secured their victory on Saturday, August 17, 2024, by defeating host team Global Pharma FC 2-0 at the D. Tweh Sports Pitch in the Borough of New Kru Town, clinching the preseason tournament title.
Global Pharma started the match with confidence and had several opportunities to take the lead, but they couldn’t capitalize. Sylvester Doe and Vakaba Kamara came close to scoring for the Pharma boys, but Blackman Warriors’ goalkeeper Dominic Dorbor made crucial saves to keep the match level.
The Warriors had their chances as well, with Augustine Deyougar and Elijah Reeves coming close, but they were unable to beat Global Pharma’s goalkeeper, Terry Toe. A missed header from Prince Martor added to the excitement for the Warriors’ fans.
Prince Martor eventually broke the deadlock in the first half, scoring the opener for the Warriors after Elijah Reeves skillfully maneuvered around Lawrence Wilson and delivered a cross that Martor tapped in, sending the stadium into jubilation.
Despite a strong effort from Global Pharma to equalize, Dorbor remained solid in goal for the Warriors, making fantastic saves throughout the match.
Elijah Reeves doubled the Warriors’ lead in the second half, capitalizing on a rebound after Toe’s save, marking his fourth goal of the tournament.
Down by two goals, Global Pharma applied pressure on the Warriors’ defense, but their strikers failed to find the back of the net. Things took a turn for the worse when Terry Toe received a straight red card for bringing down Reeves outside the box.
Foday Massaquio sealed the victory for Blackman Warriors with a curving effort that left Global Pharma’s substitute goalkeeper, Abdulai Koulibaly, with no chance, ending the game 3-0 in favor of the Warriors.
As champions, Blackman Warriors were awarded medals and a trophy. The organizers informed the team that a cash prize of one hundred thousand Liberian Dollars will be presented upon the return of the trophy.
Blackman Warriors’ Dominic Dorbor was named Best Goalkeeper of the tournament, while Elijah Reeves won the Highest Goal Scorer award. Siafa Freeman, also of Blackman Warriors, took home the Best Defender accolade. Global Pharma’s coach, Reo Nyanti, was awarded Best Coach, and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award went to Vakaba Kamara of Global Pharma FC.
At the end of the game, Global Pharma President Sylvanus Morris expressed his appreciation to all the participating teams for accepting the invitation to be part of the inaugural edition of the tournament. He noted that the tournament was a success and will become an annual event aimed at preparing teams for the new league season.
The first edition featured eight teams from the First, Second, and Third Divisions. Montserrado County District 16 Representative Dixon Seboe was the primary sponsor of the tournament, with additional sponsorship from BukonJadeh Group of Companies and Samuel Weah.
