Kamara defeated Otis Wreyou in a competitive election held by the organization.
The Gardnerville-based Old Timers team election came as the result of the death of Weah Doe, then-president of the organization, who died September 2024.
Kamara collected 16 of the 28 valid votes, while Otis got 12 votes.
Kamara was defeated in the last election that brought Doe to power but finally got the power to lead the body for the next two years.
Following the announcement of the winner, SEBA election Commissioner, Bobby Kamawo, said the election was transparent and thanked members who voted.
“I am confident that everyone will be satisfied with the results because I can say it was transparent except that someone wants to contest the result and we will be willing to listen and find solutions.” Kamawo said.
For his part, LONA observer at the election Feetor Ballah said he was happy that the election was carried out and congratulated the president elect.
“LONA by itself is encouraging clubs to follow such an example in carrying out such democratic process because it shows the unity among members,” Ballah added.
The SEBA president-elect outlined his key priorities for the growth and advancement for the Senior Brother Association.
He said It’s time for everyone to put his or her hands on their desks and ensure that they move SEBA forward.
“I am so happy for the victory and not only because I have won, but because I have long waited to change the leadership style and be more accountable to the organization,”
“I have been around and seen too many things being done outside our constitution.
As the President, I will ensure that every provision of our constitution is upheld. Over the years, we have disregarded it and a clear indication of this is the just ended election that should’ve been conducted a year ago. I want to ensure that we bring back that social cohesion and togetherness. I know for a fact that members are not united and this is causing a serious problem for the organization.
“Financial reporting and accountability: I wanted to do it differently from the past where we will have our financial report quarterly as required by the constitution. We have to be accountable to our people and show them respect.
“Social Welfare: I have seen over the years that we have met our organization to celebrate our own anniversary or have a year end celebration. I want to introduce or bring this back to the organization. Besides, we have to be able to show concern for our members. The organization should be worried if a member has been away from the organization especially if they have said anything to the leadership. He outlined his plans.
According to the newly-elected President, during his first one year he will ensure a Senior Brothers Unification Day.
Also, he said he will work with the body to set up a committee to reach out to his members who have been away for years and have Constitution reforms to Revise the constitution.
“I feel guilty calling Otis a defeated candidate because he’s my professional colleague and a longtime friend. However, I just want to say thank you to him for his participation in the election and that he shouldn’t see this as a national election but a milestone for Senior Brothers. I would like to urge him to work along with me and others to see our beloved organization get to the level that can be second to none.,” Kamara said.
