ISSA described the assault as an unprovoked and unnecessary act of violence, emphasizing that it was not just an attack on the LFA but a deliberate attack on the sport of football and its passionate followers.
The association stated that football, a sport with no boundaries, has played a key role in uniting Liberians, both during and after the country’s turbulent periods, while also contributing to economic relief and infrastructural development.
“Football has brought economic relief to millions, including players and their families, and has helped improve the nation’s image globally,” ISSA said in its statement.
In addition to condemning the attack, ISSA urged the relevant government authorities to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators of the violence and ensure they face legal consequences. The association called for the justice system to handle the situation with the appropriate legal proceedings, reflecting civilized behavior.
Meanwhile, the 2024/2025 ISSA league, which was temporarily suspended to allow students to complete their exams, will resume on April 1, 2025.
ISSA also called for unity among all football stakeholders in Liberia, urging collaboration for the growth and development of the sport.
The association believes that fostering a spirit of unity will help Liberia’s national team, the Lone Star, qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for a third time and, in the near future, the FIFA World Cup.
