The deal is worth three hundred thousand Liberian dollars for a season with the option to extend for another year, FrontPageAfrica understands.
BukonJadeh group of companies is a micro financial company that is involved in construction work. During the signing ceremony Wednesday, August 21, the president of Global Pharma FC, Sylvanus Morris, said his club is delighted to enter into such a deal.
According to Morris, a former footballer, it’s difficult for Liberian clubs to attract companies in the country for support.
He praised Bukonjadeh for the trust and commitment to support his team.
“Firstly, I would like to thank Bukonjadeh for their support to football and this deal today ,” Mr. Morris said.
“With all the challenges we are facing as a team, Bukonjadeh group of Companies is the first company to come to our aid, we appreciate your timely intervention. Mr. Jones and your staffers, this will go a long way in providing us what we need as we approach the opening of the league,” he said.
He asserted that signing such a deal has made the both entities a family and promised that his club will live up to their part of the agreement.
He said the deal may not be huge as others may think but it’s a start that will help the team continue its preparation and also address some of its financial difficulties during the league season.
“For a Liberian-owned company to come and support a team in this form is something we wish for a Liberian company and even other foreign companies operating in Liberia to support teams,” he added.
“We have companies making money from our country but not giving anything back to sports, I see it as a disservice. So we are hoping others will see this and come in also,” he added.
Elton Johns, chief executive officer of BukonJadeh group of companies, said his company is excited to support Liberian football.
The BukonJadeh CEO said the sponsorship deal is part of the company’s social corporate responsibilities. “We are so excited to put our signature to this document, I want to emphasize this relationship matters a lot money is not all to it”
“It’s a new dawn for all of us at Bukonjadeh and we can assure Global Pharma that this relationship or partnership we have started will last for long and we see it as a welcoming news for all of us.
“We expect that Global Pharma FC will be a team that will be placed in the spotlight and reach the CAF Champions League. That is why we are coming in to support them in our little way and we are very certain that Global Pharma FC will stand tall in the national league,” he said.
He urged other microfinance institutions and other businesses in the country to emulate his company by supporting Liberian teams.
