Monrovia-Experienced Liberian Professional golfer Akoi Flomo has emerged as winner of the of the first edition of the Seymour Grann Golf Tournament.

The tournament hosted on Sunday February 9, 2025 by the Liberia Golf Association was in honor of Seymour Grann who was a lover of the sport and because of his contribution and love for the sport the Liberia Golf Association decided to have a tournament in his honor.
According to the LGA Mr. Graan played a key role in the sport and as such they decided to honor him with an annual tournament.
The tournament brought together the best golfers in the country in several categories which include amateur, professional, female and senior Professional competing for the giant size trophy and a cash prizes which run from 50USD to 1000.00USD.
Speaking during the award ceremony that brought the best in Liberian golf to participate in the first edition of the tournament Dr. C Nelson Oniyama president of the Liberia Golf Association said Mr.Grann played a key role in the development of Golf in Liberia.
He said even though Mr. Graan wasn’t a Liberian but he was so passionate to see Liberian golf players on the international stage.
He disclosed that because of the Love Seymour Grann had for the sport he put in his well an amount for the Liberia Golf Association to have an annual tournament in his name.
Several Golfers from across the country came together to celebrate Mr Grann in a day long tournament at the Seaview Golf course on Sunday February 9, 2025.
Over seven winners walked away with cash prizes ranging from 50 USD to 1000 USD.
Akoi Flomo one of Liberia’s Professional Golf player emerged as the winner of the tournament walking away with one thousand United States Dollars as the grand prize of the tournament and a giant size trophy.
Presenting the grand prize to Flomo the president of the Liberia Golf Association Dr. C Nelson Oniyama said Akoi has brought so much pride to the country and to see him come out as the winner of the tournament was not a surprise to him.
He encouraged other Liberian golfers to take advantage of the international golf course they have so they can challenge other international players.
He said the LGA is planning an international tournament to be hosted in Liberia and will not want to see a foreigner win the prize.
“Take advantage of this golf course in Liberia because when the big money comes Liberia will win it but if you don’t practice you will not win it because this sport is a fair sport,”
“You need to practice because the next tournament will be bigger than this and if you don’t practice hard you will not win and somebody will take it away” Dr. Oniyama said.
The Golf Association President of Liberia said the game is a gentlemen game and was impressed with how the golfers organized themselves during the tournament.
He assured Liberians that the tournament will be bigger next year and will continue to grow every year.
He also told the gathering that the tournament trophy will be kept by Association and the winner of each year name will be placed on the trophy for the first ten years.
Veteran Liberian Golfers Rick Keller won the senior professional category ahead of Andrew Dahn and Edward Flomo while the amateur category was won by Fran Oben followed by Abraham Karen and Shet Devine.
In the Ladies category Genevee Sheriff walked away with the title as winner defeating Masangay Saryon and Adam’s Fofana who finished second and third respectively.
