The Soccer Missionaries maintained top spot in the LFA first division Sunday with victory over championship hopeful LISCR FC.
LISCR FC bowed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of FC Fassell at the SKD practice field.
Sunday’s encounter was the first meeting between both clubs since their last encounter in 2019.
The long-awaited return of this fierce rivalry had fans on the edge of their seats, and the first half of the match did not disappoint.
As the halftime whistle blew, the scoreboard read 2-0 in favor of FC Fassell.
From the moment the match kicked off, it was clear that FC Fassell meant business. Their players were relentless, pressing high and creating numerous scoring opportunities. LISCR FC, known for their strong defense, struggled to contain Fassell’s aggressive play in the opening half.
The breakthrough came in the early minutes when Fassell’s forward dribbled past two defenders and fired a powerful shot into the top corner of the net, leaving the LISCR goalkeeper with no chance. The stadium erupted as Fassell took the lead, and their fans celebrated wildly.
LISCR FC tried to regain their footing, but Fassell’s midfield dominated the first half , intercepting passes and launching swift counterattacks. Just before the halftime break, Fassell struck again.
FC Fassell’s two goals in the first half were enough to give them all three points. An improved LISCR FC fought back in the second half, but Fassell withstood the pressure.
The introduction of Anthony Lafford in the second half saw LISCR improved, but could only get a consolation through enterprising forward Emmanuel Flomo.
Fassell are up to four points at the top of the LFA First Division League table, while LISCR need to work to catch up.
LISCR played the match without a coach, as their newly hired coach Theophilus Geekor could not stand on the line because his former employers Heaven Eleven have reportedly rejected his resignation and subsequent appointment as LISCR head coach.
The club’s deputy coach, Chris Wreh was also absent from the team, as reports have it that he’s unhappy with the appointment of Theo as his boss.
