During a recent meeting at the LCF headquarters in Sinkor, LCF’s President Thomas Karyah emphasized the importance of the upcoming training. “Our goal is to equip sports journalists with a deeper understanding of chess so they can effectively report on the sport,” Karyah said.
He pointed out that Chess is not only a game of intellect and strategy but also an increasingly significant part of global sports culture. “By training our journalists, we hope to bring more visibility and appreciation to the game,” he added.
Karyah believes the initiative will help strengthen the relationship between the media and the chess community, contributing to the growth and popularity of the sport in Liberia.
“By empowering our sports writers with the right knowledge and skills, we are not only supporting their professional development but also promoting chess as an important and exciting sport in Liberia,” he concluded.
SWAL Secretary General Edwin Dolo welcomed the initiative, praising the LCF for its commitment to improving coverage of chess. He also commended the few journalists currently reporting on the sport and encouraged others to attend the workshop. “This workshop will be laudable, and I must appreciate our few members who have been reporting on the sport,” Dolo said.
