CEO Elton Johns said the partnership aligns with the company’s corporate social responsibility mission to support young men and women, particularly through athletics and education. The sponsorship, valued at over L$500,000, marks Bukonjadeh’s third investment in sports and its first in basketball.
“This is our third team, but the first in basketball,” Johns stated. “We started with Global Pharma FC in the LFA First Division, then Cece United FC in the Second Division. Now with D-Rockas, we are expanding our reach to support more youth through sports.”
Johns added that Bukonjadeh plans to extend similar support to teams under the Liberia Kickball Federation (LKF) and the Inter-School Sports Association (ISSA) to further encourage talent at the grassroots level.
He emphasized that the goal is not just limited to athletic development but also includes contributing to classroom education and character building, which he believes are essential to shaping future Liberian leaders.
“Our involvement is a way of giving back and redirecting the aspirations of young people,” Johns said. “We want to inspire a new generation by showing that with support, they too can rise—just like former President George Weah, who came from a humble background.”
Johns warned that without intervention and support, many young people—especially girls—are vulnerable to negative influences. He called on other companies and institutions to join in empowering Liberian youth.
