The Rollers’ slot confirmation was as the result of a request made to FIBA Africa Zone-3 by the Liberia Basketball Association on behalf of Mighty Barrolle Sports Association to grant the Liberian side a Wild card slot.
A communication from the Liberia Basketball Association signed by its Secretary General of the LBA, Calvin Diggs, indicated that Barrolle have a long-standing history of promoting basketball excellence in Liberia, and is eager to showcase their talents and sportsmanship on such prestigious platform.
The LBA noted that granting Barrolle the opportunity to participate in the tournament will enhance players’ competitive experience and contribute to the growth and visibility of basketball in Liberia.
The communication added that the Liberian champions can produce meaningful contributions to the tournament and positively represent Liberia on the international stage once the request is accepted by FIBA.
After days of reviewing Liberia’s request, FIBA accepted. FIBA informed the Liberian champions that qualified as a Wild Card or the best loser during the preliminary qualifiers that took place in Tripoli, Libya early October.
Barrolle got defeated twice in the tournament and won a game out of three matches, which put them in a better position ahead of their counterparts.
According to the organizers the tournament will run from November 5-10th, 2024, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
Meanwhile Delegates for the 2024 FIBA Women’s Basketball Africa League have started arriving in Liberia for the most talked about event.
It’s the first time in the history of the competition to be held in Liberia. It will feature clubs from Liberia, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and Benin.
The international women basketball showdown will run from November 4-10th, 2024 at the SKD Gymnasium in Paynesville City.
