The league, aimed at fostering unity among the residents of Barnesville, opened with an exciting football match that saw Area B secure a convincing 2-0 victory against Area S at the Barnesville Estate Sports Pitch on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Striker Daniel Moah shined for Area B, netting a brace. His first goal came in the 45th minute with a powerful header from a perfectly timed cross pass from his teammate. He completed his brace in the 55th minute, sealing the win for his team.

However, in the kickball opener, Area B faced a formidable opponent in Area S and suffered a 4-0 innings defeat.

On Sunday, September 10, 2023, the kickball match between Area Z and Area E ended with a lopsided score of 14-2 in favor of Area Z. The football match between the same teams ended in a 1-1 draw. Meanwhile, Area F dominated Area Y with a score of 7 innings to 2 in kickball, but Area Y bounced back with a 2-0 victory in football, thanks to striker Henry Dias, who scored in the 60th and 77th minutes.

Augustine S. Tamba, the Organizing Chairman of the 2023 Barnesville Estate Area League, expressed his delight at the turnout of spectators for the league’s opening game, describing it as encouraging. He expressed hope that the enthusiasm of the fans would persist until the final day of the league.

Tamba emphasized the league’s role in promoting harmony within the Barnesville Estate community and its surroundings. He further explained that this year’s edition of the estate league aims to raise awareness for peaceful elections. The football champions will walk away with 100,000 LD along with a trophy, while the runners-up will receive 50,000 LD and a trophy. In the kickball category, the winners will be awarded 70,000 LD and a trophy, with the runners-up receiving 35,000 LD plus a trophy.

Tamba extended his appreciation to District #11 Representative Richard Koon, the sponsor of the 2023 edition of the league, for his continued support in fostering the growth of the estate and its surroundings. He also urged officials of the participating teams to adhere to the rules of the game for the successful continuation of the league.
