
Monrovia – The Liberian Basketball Association (LBA) is mourning the passing of its former Secretary General, Fred Prat, who died on Wednesday, March 26.

The LBA announced Prat’s death in the afternoon, describing him as a dedicated and influential figure in Liberian basketball whose contributions will not be forgotten.
Though the cause of his death has not been revealed, his legacy within the basketball community is remembered for his commitment and passion for the sport.
Prat was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the LBA at the 2024 awards ceremony. He also served for several years as the Secretary General of the Liberia National Olympic Committee.
The LBA expressed deep sorrow over his passing, calling it a significant loss to the sport and recognizing Prat as an innovative personality who shaped the direction of basketball in Liberia.
Prat, a former basketball player, also worked as a referee before rising to become the Secretary General and Chief Referee of the LBA.
Varmah Kamara, president of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia, expressed condolences on behalf of the basketball community, stating, “Our deepest condolences to the basketball family. This world is not our own…May God forgive his sins.”
