Monrovia – The 2019 Liberia Football Association’s “Who Owns the Land” tournament will officially kickoff Saturday, September 14.
Twelve teams from the first and second divisions, including the female category, will participate in the two-week preseason tournament.
According to the Football Association, the off-season showdown will feature teams based on their ratings from last season.
Article Four, Section one point three of the rules that governed the 2019 season, says the tournament shall comprise of the champions and runners-up of the first and second divisions, knockout champion or runner-up in case the champion is the same as the league champion or league runner-up and three teams from the national third division play-offs for the male category.
In the female category, the tournament shall feature the top three teams in the league plus the knockout champion or runner-up.
The teams have been drawn in a group for elimination purposes and will play over two legs until the semi-finals, a release from the FA said after the draw.
First and second divisions’ champions LPRC Oilers and Barrack Young Controllers (BYC-II), Watanga FC and Almighty FC were drawn in group one while knockout champions LISCR FC, third division play-offs champions Sandi FC, Bea Mountain and Stages FC were paired in group two.
Earth Angels, which won the league and cup double, Blanco FC, Senior Professionals and Determined Girls complete the draw for the female category.
The tournament that will commence Saturday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium, will see six teams in action on match day one.
In game one, Senior Professionals will take on Blanco at 12:30; Second Division BYC-II will battle newly promoted second division outfit Almighty FC at 2pm while Liberian champions LPRC Oilers will test their title credentials against Watanga FC at 4pm.
On match day two on September 15, Determined Girls will face Earth Angels at 12:30pm in the male category new second division boys Sandi FC will chase Bea Mountain of the first division at 2pm and LISCR FC will be mindful against Stages FC at 4pm.
On September 17, Almighty FC will battle BYC-II at 2pm while Watanga take on LPRC Oilers in the second legs.
On September 18, Bea Mountain will meet Sandi FC at 2pm while Stages FC will welcome LISCR FC in the second legs.
