It will be the first time a big final would be held out of Montserrado County after the Liberia Football Association (LFA) president Mustapha Raji confirmed on Friday.
Addressing a press conference Friday, January 18, for the first time as president of the LFA, Raji said that his administration is keen on decentralizing football in Liberia.
“Look at the FA Cup, we promised to decentralize football in the country. So our FA Cup final will be played in Grand Bassa County because this administration intends to move football around the country,” Raji said.
Meanwhile, several stakeholders welcome the LFA decision to decentralization idea by this medium.
“I think it’s a welcoming idea for the people of Grand Bassa to better know the players and also enjoy the beauty of the game,” Barrack Young Controllers president Nathaniel Sherman said.
He added, “They will feel part of the football game and it’s also going to be a big boast for the local economy in that part of the country.
“We will have people going to watch the game from Monrovia and other parts of Liberia as well.”
Also commenting on the statement, Bea Mountain Assistant Coach, Mr. Emmanuel Kaykay, said that it would help in exposing the players.
“It will draw out people’s attention a bit. It is another way of taking football to the people,” Kaykay added.
“This will expose the players to another environment, and making the people feel the flavour,” he added.
LISCR FC Coach Tapha Manneh, whose team was on a preseason tour in Grand Bassa, said that people of Bassa love football and it is good for football.
“I think it’s good to decentralize football especially FA cup,” Manneh said.
“They like football really because the turnout was excellent,” he added.
