
Monrovia – Liberian followers of the Spanish-based football team, Football Club Barcelona, are set to officially launch a Liberian fan club in support of the team. They are under the banner “Football Club Barcelona Fan Club Liberia (FCBFCL).”
They told the FrontPageAfrica Sport Desk that they are doing the launch on Friday, November 29, because it is on this day that the Club was established 120 years ago in Spain.
The Fan Club’s Acting President, Alaskai M. Johnson, said that included in events of the day would be a parade, which is expected to begin from the Duport Road Intersection at 9 a.m., and end at the SKD Boulevard. He further stated that following the march, everyone would disperse and come back by the afternoon hour of 3 p.m. at one of club’s members’ entertainment center at the intersection of the SKD Boulevard and Tubman Boulevard where they will a mini indoor program, follow by a big party.
“During the parade, we have printed safety stickers that we would be handling to motorists and interested passersby but mainly to drivers and motorcyclists. The stickers contain safety messages that lead to life-saving,” Johnson said.
According to him, two officials of both the Liberia Football Association (LFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports are expected to grace the occasion.
Johnson disclosed that they have fully registered the fan club with the Liberian Government as a non-for-profit organization, which is aimed at further promoting the FC Barcelona’s motto: “More Than A Club.”
“Even though we are a fan club for a football team, since our team is not only about football, we are going to follow in those steps, too. We are going to be giving alms to disadvantaged Liberian kids and visiting sports academies to identify with the kids learning how to play the beautiful game of football. We are going to also be involved with other national and patriotic duties to our country,” Johnson added as he invited every FC Barcelona supporters in Liberia especially those in Monrovia to the launch on Friday.
He disclosed that the Club’s supporters are in high spirit for the launch of their Fan Club.
