Fassell, who are currently struggling in the ongoing national league this season, sit at the bottom on the table but recalled their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over NPA Anchors on Wednesday, April 17, in Kakata City at the Nancy B. Doe Stadium.
The club in a communication dated April 15, 2019, said their decision was based on Mr. Barsi-Giah’s leadership skills and interest in developing football in Liberia.
The club further said in its communication that they were convinced that he will transfer his skill in reshaping and branding the club for sponsorship.
The club’s communication read,” I am pleased to announce your appointment as acting president of Football Club Fassell. Our decision is based on your leadership skills through training and mentoring young people especially players.”
Adding: “Your interaction, hard-work, compassion and interest in developing football are the attestation that such skill is needed for the enhancement and growth of our organization.”
The club did not give a period that Barsi-Giah will serve in the position. It is believed he will oversee the club for the season before a president will be elected or appointed officially.
But speaking to FrontPageAfrica after his appointment, the former Invincible Eleven and Black Star midfielder, who started work officially as president of the club on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, promised to promote the commercial network of Fassell.
He further said that it is normal for football club to struggle in the league but stressed that Fassell can turn the season around something the club did in his first game as president.
“But Fassell has produced quality football in the league and that is why we want to add value and changing the players’ mentalities, the change that will get the players back on the level and challenge in the league.”
The club needs to be facilitated by sponsorship, to extend the club’s brand, maybe it is struggling financially and players are not motivated but the players should be excited through the motivation they will receive.
The newly appointed president, however, assured fans that the club would be active in the mid-season transfer.
“We cannot change the rule for the transfer of players because the market is closed but we are waiting for the second phase. We need players that are capable to make the club competitive in the league,” he said.
