Monrovia – IK Brage midfielder Seth Kanteh Hellberg has been called-up by new Liberia coach Peter Butler.
The 24-year-old is one of 13 overseas based-players in the squad for next month’s 2022 World Cup qualifier with Sierra Leone outside Monrovia.
Hellberg, who plays in Sweden’s second tier, was born to a Liberian mother and Swedish father.
The 1.79 m (5 ft 10.5 in) midfielder joined Brage from Syrianska and also featured for Brommapojkarna from 2014-2016.
Hellberg, who has played in Sweden’s top three levels, has featured 19 times for Brage, who are fourth on the 16-team table, leveled on 37 points with Jonkopings and two points adrift of leaders Mjallby after 20 games.
Newcastle United under-23 midfielder Mohammed Sangare, who made his long-awaited debut away to DR Congo in March, is also in the squad.
Captain William Jebor, who recently moved to the United Arab Emirates and Belarus-based defender Eugene Swen, who last featured in the 1-0 friendly defeat to Ivory Coast in March, were recalled.
Veteran South Africa-based striker Anthony Laffor of Mamelodi Sundowns missed out due to injury.
Butler will name the local-based players after LPRC Oilers and LISCR FC’s Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup second leg ties this weekend.
Liberia will take on Sierra Leone on 4 September outside Monrovia with the return leg in Freetown on 8 September.
