In an exclusive interview with FrontPage Africa, Sheikh Sumaworo emphasized that Ramadan is a sacred period for all Muslims, including Liberian Muslims, and should be observed with the utmost devotion.
“It is the obligation of every Muslim to remain focused not only on the rules of Ramadan but also on the broader principles of Islam,” he stated.
Sheikh Sumaworo urged Muslims to remind one another of their duty to observe fasting during the day and engage in night prayers, as Ramadan is a time for spiritual closeness to Allah. He stressed that Muslims should take advantage of this holy month by dedicating themselves to acts of worship, prayer, and reflection.
He also called on imams and other religious leaders to continue guiding and motivating Muslims toward righteousness, including participation in night prayers, invocations, and charitable activities. He encouraged generosity towards the less fortunate, believing that such acts strengthen one’s faith and bring them closer to Allah.
Sheikh Sumaworo further urged Muslims to include national issues in their prayers, emphasizing that it is the responsibility of every Liberian to contribute to the country’s development.
“I am calling on all Liberians to include our nation in their prayers so that Liberia can progress towards development, tranquility, and harmony. Our social, political, and economic challenges can be addressed through prayer because we believe that if Allah answers our supplications, solutions will follow,” he stated.
He also cautioned against individuals impersonating religious leaders and misleading the Muslim community. He called on the Liberian government to ensure that leadership within the Islamic community is entrusted to qualified individuals and that all Muslim organizations are treated equally without discrimination.
“We urge the government not to grant leadership positions in Islamic institutions to individuals who are self-proclaimed leaders. At the same time, we call on the government to treat all Muslim councils and organizations fairly and without bias,” he concluded.
