The CDC comprises the Congress for Democratic Change, the National Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Liberia People Democratic Party (LPDP).
The LPDP, as gathered by FrontPageAfrica, would sign the Coalition document today.
Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, who is also the political leader of the NPP signed while Mulbah Morlu signed for the CDC.
Alleying the fear and anxieties of partisans who gathered to witness the ceremony on Tuesday, Chairman Morlu said the CDC and NPP signed and the LPDP will affix its signature today, Wednesday at 10: am.
“I know many are concerned about the coalition and why did the LPDP did not signed. One thing I can assure the public is that the LPDP is signing tomorrow February 8, 2023 and the media will be present,” he said without stating any reason behind the LPDP’s failure to show up and sign.
There are unconfirmed reports that the LPDP deliberately refused to sign on grounds that most of its demands are not being considered.
The Chairman of LPDP, Dr. Moses Kollie refused to respond to FrontPageAfrica’s inquiry concerning his party’s alleged refusal to sign the document.
Of late, the ruling coalition has been hit with a thread of internal wrangling. Leading up to President Weah’s endorsement ceremony, the coalition woke up to a rude awakening after the political of the LPDP, J. Alex Tyler, took the airwaves and denounced that the three parties have signed an agreement.
Also prior to the President’s endorsement, some cardinal members of the NPP including the county chairpersons, coordinators and auxiliaries called the chairman, Senator James Biney, the standard bearer, Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, and all partisans to boycott the program.
At a well-attended meeting, the partisans warned that if the Congress for Democratic Change continues to marginalize the NPP in the Coalition, they will pressure their leaders to pull out and redirect the party into a new political marriage.
The partisans expressed regret and frustration over the manner and form the NPP has been treated by the congress for democratic change over the past five years wherein only congress members are being considered in the allocation of party funds and logistics to function as coalitions well as preference for appointment in government. They view this as being a mere spectator in spite of the huge support the party put up to secure a victory during the 2017 presidential and legislative elections.
Though the nomination was held, some key figures of the Coalition including Tyler did not attend. Even at the signing ceremony on Tuesday, NPP Chairman Biney did not attend. The party’s secretary Andrew Peters was captured signing. Some suporters have attributed Biney’s absence to the feud that that split the party last year. It took President Weah’s intervention recently for the party to return to status quo.
