MONROVIA – Montserrado County district # 6 Representative Aspirant Wokie Dolo has undertaken and officially dedicated a six-room public latrine in the Zorlan Community in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.

The project was dedicated to address the numerous constraints the over 200 residents of the community were encountering due to the deplorable nature of the two-room public latrine facility they had in their area.
Prior to the dedication, residents were obliged to stand in long queues or wait for the late night hours to take their shower or defecate.
Speaking during the dedication of the latrine recently, Madam Dolo disclosed that the project was actualized following a request made by one of the residents.
She pointed out that the project was intended to alleviate some of the problems the residents were encountering and to promote good sanitation in the community.
“My Nigerian brother Sampson brought your problem to our attention. We visited the community and the latrine project was one of the things that were proffered by you people. We didn’t make any promise when we first came because for us, we like to see results and we said we will see what we can do.”
Madam Dolo disclosed that her foundation has been mostly involved into academics, but the latrine project was another step forward to promote sanitation in the various communities in the district.
She said though her foundation has provided scholarships to many young Liberians, some of them have not return to express gratitude for benefitting from those scholarships.
Madam Dolo emphasized that as a result of this, her foundation has advanced to another level by addressing the infrastructural needs of citizens in the various communities.
“When you put up a structure, it’s going to stay and thousands of people will see and benefit from it. So, we said we will be rendering impactful infrastructural developments in the communities.”
She said in this light, the foundation has embarked in initiating series of projects, including public latrines, hand pumps, among others in the Rock Hill, Zinc Camp communities.
Madam Dolo furthered that these initiatives are driven to help make sustainable and meaning contributions to hundreds of citizens, especially those residing in slum communities in the district.
She was quick to point out that these gestures are not intended to win the minds and hearts of the electorates ahead of the ensuing October 10 general and presidential elections.
“We are not doing this for something in exchange. It is your conscious that will tell you. We are just doing it as part of our humanitarian gesture. It is not based on interest. We believe in legacy and so, whatever you do, you are going to see us.”
“Election will come and go but we remain here because, we have put something on this soil that will not easily be broken. We have come to fulfill ad dedicate an impactful choice.”
She, however, commended the community dwellers for trusting and working alone with her to complete the project.
She said the dedication of the public latrine was a clear indication that young people can be trusted when they commit themselves to promises, adding that, “we want to say thank you for believing in us.”
The residents, however, commended Madam Dolo for the project.
They recalled that many people have promised to construct a latrine for them, but they have miserably failed to fulfill their promises.
“There were people who came and dug this place and children nearly fell in this hole; this place (where the latrine has been constructed) was a disaster,” Emmanuel Gaye, one of the leaders stated.
He called on residents of the community to be moved by their conscious and remember Madam Dolo.
Mr. Gaye stressed that residents should now “play their part” by rallying their support around the youthful representative aspirant to excel to the National Legislature.
He observed that Madam Dolo would do more for residents of the community and district at large if she is supported and given the chance to represent them at the level of the National Legislature.
Meanwhile, residents of Zorlan Community have pledged to support the candidacy of Madam Dolo in the ensuing elections.
