    Liberia: Brownie Samukai Reaffirmed as Winner of Lofa County Senatorial Election

    Monrovia – The Board of Commissioners, (BOC) of the National Elections Commission, (NEC) has reaffirmed and confirmed its earlier ruling declaring Collaborating Political Parties Candidate, CPP, J. Brownie Samukai as winner of the 8 December 2020 Special Senatorial Elections in Lofa County.

    The seven persons Board of Commissioners unanimous decision was read today Friday 5 February 2021 by Commissioner Josephine Kou Gaye.

    However, lawyers representing the complainants, led by Cllr. Samuel Kortimai has excepted the ruling and announced an appeal to the Honorable Supreme Court of Liberia.

    To which appeal, the Head of the Administrative Hearing, Davidetta Browne Lansanah granted in keeping with the law and subsequently dismissed the matter.

    Cllrs. J. Wilfred Sayer and Augustine Faryah represented the Second Respondent CPP, through J. Brownie Samukai, while the Complainants Ahmed Kromah and James Mally one case and Kesselly Gayflor and Peter all of Lofa county were represented by Cllr. Samuel Kortimai.

    In a related development, the Board of Commissioners has reserved ruling in thehearing on an Appeal, CDC, by and through Alfred Kaiwon Gbarpolu County and Hon. Botoe Kanneh, Candidate Gbarpolu county Special Senatorial Elections.

    Speaking for the Board of Commissioners today, 5 February 2021, Chairperson Browne Lansanah said after listening to arguments by lawyers representing the two parties, notice will be served for the ruling and that the matter was suspended.  Cllr. Author Johnson is leading the complainant’s lawyers while former Chief Justice of Liberia Glory Musu Scoot is leading lawyers representing Botoe Kanneh.

    All seven members of the BOC, including Chairperson Davidetta Browne Lansanah, Co-chairperson Cllr. P. Teplah Reeves, Commissioners Boakai A. Dukuly, Barsee Leo Kpangbai, Cllr. Ernestine Morgan Awar, Floyd Oxley Sayor and Josephine Kou Gaye heard and signed the three elections cases.

    At the same time, the Board of Commissioners of the National Elections Commission, has reserved ruling for tomorrow Saturday, 6 February 2021 in the hearing on an Appeal case filed by LINU, by and through Nathaniel Barway, against NEC, as first respondent, and Hon. Numene T. H. Bartekwa as Second respondent in the 8 December 2020 Special Senatorial Election case in Grand Kru county.

    The Chairperson Davidetta Brwone Lananah spoke today for the Board.
