Monrovia – Alexander B. Cummings, the political leader of the opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC), conducted a week-long tour in southeastern and Nimba Counties to appreciate citizen and encourage them to support the party during both 2020 senatorial and 2023 general election.
Mr. Cummings during the tour announced the party’s upcoming convention to be held in Ganta, Nimba County, from May 3-4, 2019.
During his visit to the home town of Larry P. Younquoi, Nimba country District #8 Representative who recently joined the party, Mr. Cumming, informed constituents that “it is time to change Liberia and make it an inclusive state for every citizen to have access to quality healthcare services, education, jobs and have a share in the national cake”.
Mr. Cummings said jobs creation should be based on competence, not tribalism, religion or gender because everyone needs to have equal access to the country’s resources.
He said it is unfortunate to have a government who do not care about the citizen “that is the reason why they lack accountability and transparency in running the affairs of the country”.
Mr. Cummings said the opposition collaborating parties will keep holding the government feet to the fire to ensure the right things are done for the betterment of the ordinary people who cannot afford to educate their children, have access to quality healthcare and provide daily bread for the family.
He endorsed the senatorial bid of Taa Wongbe in Nimba County for the 2020 election for the many developmental projects Wongba has implemented within the county over the years.
The ANC political leader toured several communities in Harper city Maryland County, where he expressed disappointment of not winning his home town during the 2017 general election.
Mr. Cummings said losing the elections in his own home town cannot stop him from appreciating his supporter for their influencing support indicating that he is a different kind of politician who believes in giving power back to the people.
He reemphasized that he will not contest the upcoming senatorial elections but will be actively involved with the process to ensure the county elect good senator that will fully represent them at the legislature not “belly driven lawmakers”.
Cummings further said integrity, transparency, and accountability should be the benchmark for electing public officials.
He promised to do everything humanly possible in his capacity as a private citizen with the little resources he has to uplift the county.
While on his tour, Mr. Cummings also served guest speaker at celebrations of the “Global Youth Service Day,” where he urged the youth of the county to remain steadfast, law-abiding and focus on their education.
He said young people play a pivotal role in the development of every country and the future of the country lies heavily on the shoulder of the youth.
Mr. Cummings visited several institutions including the Tubman University and met with its president and other professors and told them that he was aware of the many challenges, the institution was faced with but assured them that he will do whatever little he can do as a private citizen to identify with the schools.
