Monrovia – Musa Bility’s post-FIFA Presidency bid is taken a surprising turn into the rugged jungle of Liberia’s political waters.
“It was a pleasure to have worked and served over the years and to have been a proud member of the teams that elected the leadership of this country in two successive elections.” Musa Hassan Bility
Bility who announced his exit from the ruling party last at the weekend is being touted as a potential running mate to opposition Liberty Party’s political leader Charles Walker Brumskine.
In a letter to the ruling UP Chairman Wilmot Paye, Mr. Bility said: “It was a pleasure to have worked and served over the years and to have been a proud member of the teams that elected the leadership of this country in two successive elections.”
Now it appears the successful businessman is shifting gear with confirmed reports that he has become a full-fledged member of the opposition party.
Multiple sources within the party suggest that Bility was on a shortlist of potentials that include former Finance Minister Amara Konneh, former Superintendent of the Nimba County, Edith Gongloe Weh and football legend George Weah.
A grand program commemorating his membership of the Liberty is scheduled for Monday afternoon at the Old Road, Sinkor headquarters of the Liberty Party.
Bility might be a huge defection from the Unity Party to the Liberty Party, but certainly not the first defection Cllr. Brumskine and his party has benefited from alone in one month.
Former Chairman of the All Liberian Party (ALP) Emmanuel Lomax defected to the Liberty Party last week from the All Liberian Party (ALP). He has already begun revelling in his new party, committing to lead the LP to victory in 2017.
“Liberians must know that I am a huge asset, and not liability,” Lomax told FrontPage Africa in an exclusive interview.
“Many people don’t know me because of their baseless efforts they raised,” Lomax averred.
The LP and ALP are all part of a possible merger talk, brokered by the Nimba County Senator Prince Johnson in September.
Both parties seemed to have broken some of the terms and conditions outlined in their agreement in Ganta—the Ganta Declaration.
But the appointment of former Sinoe County senator Mabutu Vlah Nyenpan to steer the affairs of the merger by a joint committee of all 12 parties, including the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) and the Alternative National Congress (ANC), is a sign, observer say, of mending broken pieces.
Merger is a key factor, commentators say, in the 2017 polls, with no political party having a clear edge over the other, especially with the opposition political parties.
So, the movement of Bility, who played a key role in the Unity Party’s second term victory in 2011, is a huge blow to Vice President Joseph N. Boakai.
Sources have also hinted FrontPage Africa that Madina Wesseh and Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Julia Duncan Cassell have been dropped from the Executive Committee of the Unity. Efforts to reach Secretary General Paye proved futile up to press time.
