MONROVIA—The Minister of Internal Affairs Francis Sakila Nyumalin, Sr, on Tuesday hosted the Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Amb. Yin Chengwu as part of an effort to strengthen Liberia’s local government act and construction of chiefdom compounds across the 15 counties of Liberia.
Minister Nyumalin, in a meeting with Amb. Yin Chengwu of the People’s Republic of China, said the meeting was aimed to recommit to the One-China policy to work along with the Chinese Embassy near Monrovia and ensure the construction of chiefdom compounds across the 15 counties of Liberia.
According to Minister Nyumalin, since President Boakai took office, the Internal Affairs Ministry has been working to construct chiefdom compounds that will include the residence of the chiefs, and conference halls that will help add more value to the working of the local government.
“Today, we’ve come to make a clarion call to our friend China through the embassy to assist with the construction of the chiefdom compounds across the 15 counties of Liberia,” Minister Nyumalin said.
He disclosed that the County Council has been established across the 15 counties which shall cover the service center and county security, and necessitated the need to have chiefdom compounds across Liberia to make it more effective.
Minister Nyumalin used the occasion to plead with the Chinese Government to build two or three more TVET institutions in strategic areas of Liberia and promote women empowerment in the area of education by providing special slots for young Liberian women to study in China.
For his part, the Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Amb. Yin Chengwu lauded Internal Affairs Minister Nyumalin for recommitting to the One-China policy with Liberia which he termed as something China’s cherished over the years.
“We expressed our confidence in our Liberian friends as partners, we are happy to see our Liberian friends prosper. We wish President Boakai AREST’s agenda success because we believe in sincerity, real results, and good faith. With that, we regard our African friends as our true friends and when we collaborate to strengthen our One-China policy, we are committing to achieving higher heights,” Amb. Yin Chengwu added.
