Monrovia – Mr. Abraham Darius Dillon, a candidate in the pending by-elections for Montserrado County, has detested what he called electoral violence, in District # 15, where he claimed campaign materials of Ms. Telia Urey, the candidate of the four collaborating parties, were being vandalized.
According to the four collaborating parties — Unity Party (UP), Liberty Party (LP), Alternative National Congress (ANC), and the All Liberian Party (ALP) — they have informed the police and the NEC about the situation and expressed hope that they will address the situation.
“There are rising concerns about electoral violence in District #15 where the four collaborating candidate, Ms. Telia Urey’s campaign materials are being vandalized. We condemn this and call on the police, NEC to intervene to bring the doers to justice.
“We detest, denounce and reject any form of electoral violence and misbehavior. We must demonstrate that we are a civilized people. We will not tolerate a repeat of what happened in District #13,” Dillon said.
He announced the official campaign team for the two candidates of the collaborating parties. The team is to be chaired by Unity Party Chairman, Wilmot Paye.
“I like to officially announce to the public the official launch and opening of our campaign to be chaired by Mr. Wilmot Paye of the UP and coordinated by Mr. Martin Kolleh of the LP. The strategy team will be headed by George Wisner of UP.”
According to Dillon, his quest to become Senator is to serve and not to occupy a job vacancy. My quest is to serve. I haven’t seen a job vacancy.”
He further stated that if elected he will work with other members of the Senate to reduce their salary. “I have the bold courage to reduce my salary as lawmakers. As it stands, it is speculated that public officials that some earn more than US$15K a month, while teachers, nurse and security personnel take home US$150 a month. That person will have to work three years to earn one month of the public official’s salary.
“I want to serve so that is while I have the opportunity to send my kids to private school. I will work to improve the quality of the public school so people who can only send their kids to public school will have the opportunity to compete with my kids in private school.”
He promised to expose corrupt practices in the legislature if elected as senator.
Dillon is contesting in a by-election to replace the late Senator Geraldine Doe-Sheriff, who died after a prolong illness while his counterpart Telia Urey is contesting to replace the late Adolph Lawrence of the CDC, who died in a car crash on the Roberts field highway.
