Monrovia – The Alternative National Congress has announced that it will have its convention in Bensonville from the 29th -30th of April.
It is widely expected that retired Coco cola Executive Mr. Alexander Cummings would be elected as Political Leader of the party. It can be recalled that in recent times the chief executive has been hinting of his intent to contest the 2017 Presidency. Taa Wongbee, of the team Cummings said Cummings is looking to work with the ANC to achieve his ambitious ambition.
“ANC is the party we are going into and we are open for coalition, we stand the best chance for any coalition because if you look at the field I see that Mr. Cummings is incomparable to people who have expressed interest in running for the Presidency people who say he is not known but anyone who has read his profile and seen the records will say he is the best person for Liberia”, Wongbee
Observers believe that Cummings entry in the race has stirred up paranoia amongst some political big wits while others believe he is too new and may not have time now until October 2017 to show case himself to the Liberian people.
The ANC was established by mainly former Congress for Democratic Change partisans and headed by major political operative Mr. Lafayette Orishall Gould who is said to be one of the real brains behind CDC serving as its founding Chairman credited with registering the party and helping with its major successes.
One of the issues dogging Mr. Cummings Presidential bid is the allegation that he is an American citizen. Under our Liberian constitution only Natural born citizens may contest for Presidency. Cummings supporters insist that he has always been a Liberian and that the talk about him being American is wishful thinking coming from what they called detractors.
ANC Chairman Gould confirmed that the party is going to convention to elect a political leader. “The ANC is holding convention on the 29th and 30th instant to review policies affecting our country but also we will vote on a proposal to elect a political Leader”, Gould said.
Chairman Gould disclosed that Cummings is the only individual who has expressed the strong desire to lead the ANC to election in 2017.
When quizzed on Cummings citizenship he said Cummings is a pure Liberian. Born to Maryland and Nimba parents and even the President know evidence by his recent appointment to BWI Board as eminent Liberian.
