Monrovia – As the 2016-2017 academic school years begin, several students across Montserrado County have benefitted from a week long distribution of copybooks from the Alternative National Congress (ANC) of Mr. Alexander B. Cummings.
The copybooks distribution started Monday, October 18 and ended Friday, October 22, 2016.
According to the Regional coordinator of Montserrado and Margibi counties of the ANC Mr. Michael Doe who was heading the delegation, the donation of copybooks to students across Montserrado County is the ANC own way of identifying with needy students especially in secondary schools.
“Today, we have started the distribution of copybooks to students across Montserrado County and this is a good will gesture from the ANC by identifying with needy students especially in secondary schools”.
Speaking to students of the John P. Mitchell Public school, Mr. Doe cautions the students to use the copybooks for its intended purpose.
“As we are giving you these copybooks, we urge you to please use it for its intended purpose”.
He also admonished the students to take advantage of the Cummings Africa Foundation’s (CAF) scholarship program to continue their education after completion of high school.
“Let me also use this time to admonish you to take advantage of the scholarship program of the Cummings Africa Foundation to enable you continue your education after successfully completing high school”.
The Cummings Africa Foundation (CAF) is the humanitarian arm of the ANC political leader, Mr. Alexander B. Cummings.
It was established in 2005 as a way of giving back to society.
In response, the President of the Students Council government of the John P. Mitchell high school, thanked the ANC delegation for the gesture and promised to use the books for its intended purpose.
Mr. Jeremiah Johnson who spoke very excitingly, encouraged the ANC through its political leader Mr. Alexander B. Cummings to continue reaching out to the student community and providing more assistances to them (student community).
“I just want to thank this delegation for the gesture and we can assure you that the copybooks will be used for the intended purpose.”
“I also want to encourage the ANC to continue reaching out to the students community along with Mr. Cummings” he said.
Speaking to reporters at the close of the exercise, the head of the delegation Mr. Michael Doe disclosed that the distribution of copybooks to students will not be done only in Montserrado County but will extend to Margibi and other parts of the country.
He disclosed plans to include other school materials such as ink pens, pencils, rulers and sharpeners during the next outreach for primary school going children.
“We will like to say that during the next exercise, we will include other school materials including ink pens, pencils, rulers and sharpeners for primary school going kids”.
Schools visited by the Team from the Alternative National Congress (ANC) included, but not limited to R. C. Lawson, Calvary Chapel Mission School, John P. Mitchell High School, Paynesville SDA High school, Outreach Mission Academy, Patmela High School and Christian Bible Faith.
Others included; Kalita High school, PYJ Academy, James Doe Young AGM School, Katherine Mcquire Catholic School, Rev. Peter Amos George School, Freeway Baptist School, William Kpolleh High school, E. Jonathan Goodridge High School, Dolaikeh School, CAC Academy and the Topkin Academy.
With the vision to transform Liberia which include pragmatism, the Alternative National Congress (ANC) established by few Liberians and accredited by the National Elections Commission since 2013, is among 22 political parties in Liberia expected to participate in the 2017 Presidential and Representative elections.
The political leader of the party is retired Coca-Cola Chief Administrative Officer and Executive Vice President Mr. Alexander B. Cummings, Jr.
