Mr. Sulunteh was Thursday cleared by the court to contest the October 10, 2017 presidential election after he was rejected by the National Elections Commission.
Celebrating their latest victory on Sunday, the placards-bearing ANC supporters said the court’s ruling signals their victory in October.
“This celebration is the prelude to our victory in the October election,” Othello Frank, a partisan of the ANC said.
Some of the placards read: “Supreme Court cleared Ambassador Sulunteh. Welcome to Bong County, Ambassador Sulunteh.”
The crowd moved in a motorcade on the main street in Gbarnga singing and dancing to music, which led to traffic on the main street in Gbarnga.
Hajah Fofana, who personally led the procession through the Gbarnga main street, said the people of Bong County were happy for the Supreme Court’s ruling.
She said Thursday, July 20, 2017 would go down in history as the day God manifested himself on behalf of supporters of ANC in Bong County even when it appeared as if all hopes had been lost and prayers not answered over the election.
In his reaction to the ruling, Mr. Sulunteh thanked the people of the Bong County for their support and prayers during his challenges.
“I have come to tell the people of Bong County that I will be on the ballot paper as vice running mate to Alexander B. Cummings. To all my supporters under the sound of my voice, we have won the case at the Supreme Court; let no one lie to you in Bong County.”
“There is no doubt that the past few weeks have been very challenging and trying for us as we contended with anti-democratic and evil forces who tried to subvert the will of God and the mandate of the people freely given to us.
“We insisted we would explore all legal means in our avowed belief in the rule of law. “
“Today our mouths are filled with laughter and hearts with praise, our resilience has paid off.”
