Monrovia – UNICEF’s Representative in Liberia, Andy Brooks, has emphasized the need for a united approach to support the economic growth and welfare of children across Liberia.
According to Ambassador Brooks, despite the Liberian government’s focus on children’s education within its ARREST agenda, challenges such as violence, drug abuse, and exploitation continue to threaten children’s development, with long-term negative impacts on their wellbeing and future potential.
Ambassador Brooks warned that Liberia may face increasing difficulties in human capital development if opportunities to promote economic growth, especially through the sustainable use of natural resources, are not created to provide children with access to quality education. “For Liberia’s future sustainability, it is essential to establish an environment where children can grow and succeed,” he stated.
He urged the national government and international partners to prioritize urgent improvements in children’s access to quality education across Liberia, noting that such efforts are crucial for the country’s development.
In addition, Ambassador Brooks reaffirmed UNICEF’s commitment to expanding access to healthcare services for all children, as part of its dedication to enhancing the welfare and future prospects of Liberia’s youth.
