MONROVIA – On September 27, 2023, a remarkable event unfolded at the Ministerial Complex in Monrovia. It was a Job Fair orchestrated by the Orange Digital Center (ODC) in collaboration with GIZ, drawing a vibrant assembly of over 300 job seekers, primarily consisting of young graduates. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as these individuals, who had undergone comprehensive training at the ODC’s Congo Town facility, eagerly participated in the fair. This training initiative, supported by Orange Digital Center and GIZ, equipped them with essential soft skills and technical expertise, elevating their competitiveness in the job market.
The Job Fair served as the apex of this extensive training endeavor, designed to streamline the path of these trainees toward gainful employment. Mr. Samuel T. Duo, the CEO of TALWA HR Solution, the firm entrusted by Orange Digital Center to administer the job readiness training, elucidated the event’s significance in an interview with FrontPage Africa. He articulated, “Today’s Job Fair is just one facet of the multifaceted efforts undertaken by ODC and GIZ. Essentially, what we see today is the convergence of ODC beneficiaries, job seekers hailing from diverse backgrounds and training experiences, with the employers present at this event.”
This Job Fair had a target of filling 115 job vacancies across 22 different companies. Of these, 16 companies actively participated in the fair, receiving resumes and acquainting young job seekers with their respective organizations and enterprises.
Mr. Zaza Mulbah, the Senior Manager at ODC, underscored the program’s importance by stating, “Job seekers often lack the know-how to present themselves effectively or locate suitable job opportunities. They struggle to articulate their qualifications during interviews and may possess technical skills but fall short on essential work ethics.” He also disclosed that employment sector surveys had revealed these challenges faced by job seekers.
Ms. Sara E. Buchanan, the Executive Director of Orange Foundation and Orange Digital Center, expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming response, remarking, “We had over 500 individuals sign up for this fair, but we had to limit attendance to avoid overcrowding. Today, we are fortunate to have 16 employers participating, and we extend our heartfelt appreciation to them.”
