Monrovia – The Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) has announced the successful completion of its local leadership elections across the country. These elections were held in 91 Red Cross branches and 15 counties, marking a significant milestone in ensuring the continued transparent, accountable, and effective governance of the Liberian Red Cross.
A total of 578 individuals were elected into various leadership roles, including Branch Coordinators, Assistant Coordinators, Treasurers, and Youth Representatives. Of these, 382 were male, and 196 were female, demonstrating a strong commitment to gender diversity and inclusion.
At the county level, 92 people were elected into key leadership positions, including Chapter Chairpersons, Vice Chairpersons, Treasurers, and Youth Representatives. The elections resulted in a 57% male and 43% female representation in chapter leadership positions, advancing the LNRCS’s ongoing efforts toward gender parity.
The elections were conducted through a transparent and credible secret voting process, ensuring fairness and integrity at all levels. The newly elected leaders represent diverse religious backgrounds and abilities, further reinforcing the Liberian Red Cross’s commitment to inclusivity in leadership.
“We are proud of the diverse and passionate leadership team that has emerged from this process,” said LNRCS Secretary-General Gregory Blamoh. “This new team is well-positioned to strengthen our capacity to deliver humanitarian action at the local level, and we are excited about the future.”
As part of its continued efforts to strengthen governance, the LNRCS is now focused on the upcoming General Assembly (GA) scheduled for December 2024. The general assembly is the highest decision-making body of the National Society, and it meets every two years for a mid-term review and every four years for national elections, as stipulated in Article 6, Section 3 of the LNRCS 2018 Constitution.
The December General Assembly will elect new national leadership for the next four years, including a National President, three Regional Vice Presidents, National Treasurer, and National Youth Representatives. “This is an exciting moment for the Liberian Red Cross,” added Blamo. “The upcoming General Assembly will not only elect new leadership but will also set the course for the future of our organization as we continue to serve the people of Liberia with integrity and compassion.”
The Liberian Red Cross remains committed to enhancing its humanitarian mission and ensuring that its leadership structure reflects the principles of integrity, transparency, and inclusivity.
