Monrovia – Commissioner Charles Iriefe Erhueh of the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA) says the institution has made significant progress in aviation safety over the past fifteen years since its establishment.
Speaking on Monday, June 10, at the opening of the 10th Commission meeting of BAGAIA, Erhueh highlighted the importance of their presence in Liberia for this celebration, seeing it as an opportunity to reflect on the past and assess progress reports. He expressed optimism that the meeting would yield fruitful outcomes. He noted that the meeting aims to discuss several agendas, including presentations and decisions that will shape BAGAIA’s future.
The three-day event, running from June 10 to June 12, 2024, is held at the Farmington Hotel in Margibi and marks the 15th anniversary of BAGAIA, a regional organization dedicated to aviation safety.
Also speaking at the event, Captain Moses Weefur, Commissioner of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), emphasized that BAGAIA’s primary goal is to save lives. “If someone buys their ticket to get on an airplane, for the air hostess to welcome you onboard, several measures need to be in place to ensure passenger safety,” said Captain Weefur. He further explained that BAGAIA is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and preventive measures for all passengers.
Captain Weefur recommended that BAGAIA expand its services across Africa, allowing all African countries to be part of the organization.
In his remarks, the head of the BAG secretariat, Mr. Fansu Bojang, stressed that BAGAIA’s success is achievable through partnerships and collaborations. Mr. Bojang reaffirmed the BAG secretariat’s commitment to working with BAGAIA to ensure the agency’s effective performance.
