The Editor,
Do you think it’s the government’s job to make someone else’s private property (parboiled rice) “affordable” for you?? Hell no.
The government has NO right, I repeat, NO right to make parboiled rice “affordable” for you or anyone else.
But yet our imperial President issued an Executive Order (#87), stating that “… the government has recognized the need to curb the continuous increase in the price of rice, the country’s staple, in order to make it affordable for purchase”
Affordable, my arse…
Look. If rice is too expensive for you, that’s your problem. Try eating Cassava or go make your damn own rice farm!
But please do not demand that the government make it “affordable” for you! Why?
Because it’s someone else’s private property, therefore that person (the owner) has the right to sell his rice at whatever price the market will bear!
But hey, there’s some good news about the President’s Executive Order (#87).
Since it suspends the tariff on rice, it means that more money will be left in the pockets of Rice Importers to a) invest, b) save, c) pass savings unto customers or d) a combination of a, b and c! (Re “Executive Order No. 87 Extends No. 80, Suspending Tariff on Rice”, Daily Observer Online”)
For the first time in my life, I’m proud of our President! At least something good will from her Executive Order!
