Mr. President,
Can your CDC-led government please show the Liberian people the research and business case for the 2.5 billion dollars Resource-swap / Resource for Infrastructure (R4I) scheme recently agreed with China?
If your government is depending on Mount Wologisi for this scheme, then, please be aware that our people will be guided to request such evidence.
The fact that Wologisi is a resource that our forefathers have preserved for centuries at the expense of their own development must be highly considered by your government.
Mount Wologisi won’t be passed on loosely to any foreign power without proper research and consultation with our people. We will stand up for our people!
As you may also be aware, other counties have benefited significantly from their own resources boom. As a result, it’s only fair that our people too benefit from the sole resource that their forefathers have preserved for centuries for the development of the county and Liberia.
Mr. President, our position is not that Mount Wologisi belongs to Lofa alone. Rather, our position is that any development scheme proposed by your government involving Wologisi must carefully be researched, consulted with our people with significant resources allocated toward the development of the county, and Liberia.
Please be aware that we are patiently following this process and will adequately work with our people to ensure that their development priorities as well as our national development priorities are met.
We do understand the impacts of Chinese R4I schemes in Africa and have carefully reviewed the cases of Angola, DR Congo, Gabon and Ghana. We encourage your team to review these case studies.
It’s, therefore, our hope that the Liberian case be handled with extreme care to avoid any adverse impacts.
Thanks for your consideration.
