It is with heavy hearts yet in thanksgiving to God that the Jarrett, Wesley, Benson, Williams, Greywoode and Johnson families of Liberia and Sierra Leone, announce the peaceful home going of Dr. Josiah Maximilian Bankole Jarrett, M.D., FWACP, DTM &P, at the Montgomery Village Nursing Home, Gaithersburg, Maryland, on the morning of Friday, August 23rd at the ripe old age of 95 years. He was born on August 19th 1929 in Timbo, Rivercess County, Liberia.
Dr. Jarrett was Former President and a Founder of the West African College of Physicians, Former President and a Founder of the Liberian Medical and Dental Association, the first Liberian Medical Director of the Bong Mining Company Hospital, Bong County, Liberia, Former Chief Internist, St. Joseph’s Catholic Hospital, Monrovia, Liberia and Former Associate Professor, Internal Medicine, of the A. M. Dogliotti College of Medicine, University of Liberia, Monrovia, Liberia.
Mourning his irreparable loss are his wife of 56 years, Juanita Kwiade Wesley Jarrett, sons Josiah Maximilian Bankole Jarrett II and Tyrrell Kwia Jarrett, daughter Famatta Boakai Kun (LinusKun, Sr.), grandchildren, Jyudeh Maximilian Russ Jarrett, TahlorKeirra-Roz Jarrett, Elias Gailayma “E.N.” Ricks-Ngwayah, III, Jared Bankole Ricks-Ngwayah, Tyuwaye Abayomi Jarrett, Christtalin Kun-Salim (Salum Talib Salim), Linus Kun, Jr., Mclinus Kun, several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives in Liberia, Sierra Leone, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and other parts of the world.
He is predeceased by his parents Commissioner TheophilusKennickson Jarrett, mother Rachel Adeline Williams Jarrett and all his siblings: Samuel T. Jarrett, Nora Jarrett Elliott, Sylvester Omotunde Jarrett, Adeline Onike Jarrett French, Hilton OjumireJarrett, Jennie M. Bola Jarrett Gordon and S. Winston Jarrett.
Dr. Bankole Jarrett was also predeceased by his beloved daughter Dr. Julene Omojowo Jarrett Ricks-Ngwayah MD in 2012.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 7 at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 205 S. Summit Avenue, Gaithersburg, Maryland 20877.
This will be followed immediately by a Repass.
Due to logistical reasons a private Internment will be held on Monday, September 9th at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20906.
Service starts at 9:30 A.M. with time allowed for a Wake and Viewing.
Only immediate family will pay tributes during the Celebration of Life.
The family also welcomes and encourages written tributes which will be archived for the memory of Dr. Bankole Jarrett.
