MONROVIA – The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana (UG), Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, commended the newly inducted leadership of the University of Ghana Alumni Association in Liberia (UGAAL) over the weekend at the Royal Grand Hotel in Monrovia.

Professor Amfo is the first female Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana. She stated that the establishment of the University of Ghana Alumni Association in Liberia will strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries in education. She also highlighted the University of Ghana’s commitment to providing advanced education in Africa and creating a conducive learning environment.

Under her leadership, the Institutional Advancement of the University of Ghana (OIA) has been established to strengthen the alumni association across the globe. UGAAL now stands as the third University of Ghana Alumni Association in the world, following the establishment of associations in the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America.

The Vice Chancellor promised to support the efforts of UGAAL in Liberia for the greater good of the University of Ghana. She expressed her hope that the newly launched and inducted alumni association of Ghana would serve as a new beginning in the educational sectors of both nations.

Daniel Blamoh Nah, the President of UGAAL, expressed excitement about the establishment of the UG alumni association in Liberia. He mentioned that the creation of UGAAL was a dream come true for Liberia. In 2017, like-minded alumni from the University of Ghana came together to establish the UG alumni association in the country.

The newly inducted leadership of UGAAL is focused on strengthening the association and promoting its continued growth and development. Nah emphasized that the association is committed to upholding the highest standards set by sister associations globally. Currently, UGAAL consists of seventy (70) members in Liberia.

Nah expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the establishment of UGAAL. The event included speeches made by officials of the government and UG alumni, and concluded with a grand fundraiser. UGAAL collected close to two thousand United States dollars and over fifty thousand Liberian dollars in cash, with approximately one thousand United States dollars pledged.

Those inducted into office are Daniel Blamoh Nah, President, Uomah B. Witherspoon, Vice President, Garmondeh M. Yelbeh, Deputy Secretary General, Paylay M. Halay, Treasure
