BUSHROD ISLAND – Zinnah Dagoseh and her husband Boima Dagoseh (sitting on bed) in a sad mood receive cash donation from Mr. Waka Herron.
Zinnah Dagoseh, a young physically challenged Liberian mother, couldn’t hold back her tears on a sunny Saturday afternoon following the death of her only female child, among a set of triplet she delivered and named after Liberia’s first female Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor.
The struggling Liberian mother gave birth to triplet recently at the home of a local midwife, instead of a clinic or hospital due to the lack of finance.
She lived in a single room along with her unemployed husband, Boima Dagoseh, who she described as a “hustler”.
Little Jewel, who was loved and admired by neighbors and others, due to her hairy beauty, did not live to see another day with her brothers, George and Gbekugbeh, who are also named after Liberia’s President George Manneh Weah.
She reportedly died from “low blood” at the Redemption Hospital on the Bushrod Island, outside Monrovia just few days after she came unto the earth.
The Redemption Hospital is the second largest referral hospital located in the Borough of New Kru Town, in district # 16, Montserrado County.
The Happening
In tears, Zinnah explained that little Jewel experienced fever during one of the nights prior to her demise.
According to her, the eyes of little Jewel turned ‘yellow,’ something which prompted them to rush her at the Redemption Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Zinnah pointed out that the two boys from her set of triplet remain strong and kicking.
“We were laying down last night, her eyes were yellow and her skin was hot. So, we woke up and rushed her at Redemption Hospital last night. She died from low blood. The boys are alright. They are trying,” she pointed out.
Helping hands during time of bereavement
Waka Herron is a former player of the national team of Liberia, the Lone Star, and the Coordinator of the Nenne Gbi Plo Helping Hand Foundation based in Liberia, supported by his brother residing in the United States.
He stormed the slum community of Red Hill Field to identify with the kids.
But he was greeted with the shock news of the demise of little Jewel.
He, however, contributed the amount of US$50 to the Dagosehs for the up keeping of Jewel’s brothers.
“My brother read about the triplet on the internet. He is very concerned about them and he has sent me to see how they are doing; and to make an initial contribution. This is not the first time we have identify with triplet. We have been to Gbarnga to identify with some triple mothers recently,” Herron stated.
He continued: “But I am very sad to meet you people with this news. It is very saddened. I came to see the children to tell you thank you for them. We will see what to do again for the two other triplet”.
The presentation of the cash to the family couldn’t console Zinnah and her husband, Boima at the moment.
They, however, expressed their thanks and appreciation to Mr. Herron, but called on President George Manneh Weah, Vice President Taylor and others to come to their aid.
Zinnah pointed out that several persons including an individual from Canada and few others from Liberia have made cash and material donations to the family for the sake of her kids.
According to her, proceeds presented to them were used to purchase food and other items including bottles, pampers, and clothes, among others for the babies.
She wants humanitarian and others to come to her aid before things become worse for her and the children. The remaining two of the set of triplets, brings to eight the number of Zinnah and Boima’s children.
The office of VP Taylor has reportedly promised to see the kids few days after their birth; but up to present, the family is yet to meet with the Liberian Vice President.
